@ellane I’ve just recently started my second-ever (with the first being “Getting Things Done”) self-improvement book. It’s called Indistractible, by Nir Eyal. Actually I started it a couple of months ago and have gotten almost two chapters in so far thanks to being distractible, but I’m reading it because I realize that this problem with myself is the chief reason for my lack of productivity. I too only have single color desktops (sometimes I have a specific abstract wallpaper but I fade it almost to black). Not too many icons on the desktop. And I cannot have too many tabs open in my browser even, when it happens I just madly click to close all of them because they trigger me. Same isn’t true of my iPhone, though - being jailbroken I can have a LOT of icons per screen, and I do - which saves me having to flip left and right or go into folders ad infinitum. Anyway. If you have the time or inclination, at least buy a cheap MK and see if it helps speed your typing up.
Needed something to tinker with today, so I did some “clean up” on my #mechanicalkeyboards. Here is the slicker new look to the candybar (top: before, bottom: after)

Also, I just noticed that one of the replies I made on the post, to someone else, is unlisted, so you obviously didn’t read it. What I said was that I’m an ex tenkey data entry operator (proof machine) for a bank and that I don’t see the need for two of the same sort of key on a keyboard.
That is despite being at one time able to key in a sixteen digit credit card number in less than a second and a half.
If you need to tenkey stuff, you can get a separate detachable keypad that can be put away when needed to save desktop space. Beyond that, if you need to enter numbers you can use the numeric keypad.

Habe es tatsächlich geschafft meine geliebte Ducky zu schrotten und muss nun gerade auf einer low-profile Tastatur arbeiten. Fühlt sich einfach nur komisch an, obwohl ich vor ein paar Jahren noch täglich so gearbeitet habe. Immerhin ist der Ersatz unterwegs. #mechanicalkeyboards

I would live to create (and buy!) my own perfect set for my #ErgoDash, but even though I'm aiming at DSA PBT, I'm wondering if laser-printed labels would last longer or not.
Are there similar alternatives to this service, with dye-sub or double-shot?
@vozhyk That's the goal. I have a little python program that talks to the keyboard via the HID protocol. For now, the python program can query supported languages, the currently active language and also set it. However it is very basic at the moment.
So, I'm designing a system to produce 1:4 scale keyboards that are as close as possible to the look, feel, and sound of the full scale originals. The first version will be used in miniature VT100 terminals and I hope to reuse much of the work for other designs and scales.

I like to leave test prints around the house so that I catch them out of the corner of my eye which lets me see them with a less familiar vision. Making a thing in CAD tends to distort what I can see of it. #vt100
@trevorflowers In CAD, 1000 feet may as well be 0.01mm. It’s easy to lose a sense of scale when modeling sometimes. For a lot of my work, I insert a 6ft tall human model into my layouts to see how crazy (or not) something is.
Been considering an Air60 V2 since it largely checks off all the boxes:

Its USP seems to be its physical design that allows it to be placed on top of a laptop keyboard without actuating it, making it possible to have a smaller physical footprint when used away from yourh usual desk.
#MechanicalKeyboard fans, I think it's time to replace my DasKeyboard 4. There's some weird stuff happening and I think it's just had enough of life. Any recommendations for a similar alternative? UK full-size, preferably wired with a volume dial and a couple of built in USB ports. This is Cherry MX brown which I really like. I don't particularly want to build my own
@dalereardon@anthony Ahh I understand now! UK Keyboards have a dollar symbol too, it's on the number 4 key above the alphanumeric keys, the 3 key has the UK pound symbol
Same here: was not a touch typer, was much slower for several month - but now I cab touch type and other key-combinations get fast and faster each week. @AAMfP@loop0@hl

Trying out this Mastodon/Microblog thing. Had a customized TKL keyboard plate laser cut, 3D printed and painted a case, hand wired the switches, and added keycaps. Geekhack link. #mechanicalkeyboards#DIY#3dprinting
@Deceptichum I had three identical plates made, though one I modified very slightly. After accepting that I'd need to simply live with a split Left-Shift, it's been extremely usable.
Build 1 was BBC Micro inspired and is a simple flat sandwich with oak sides, DSA on the FRow, a Dolch-like "VSA" elsewhere, and Box Navies. This may still be the one I like typing on the most.
Build 2 was pre-lubed brown TTC, sloped 3d prints for the left and right, and stiff springs in the middle. In effect the entire board is a leaf spring. CSA keycaps from Amazon. This one has the double shift adjusted (courtesy of a dremel and a metal file) to be in line with what the ISO layouts do.
Entire writeup with pictures of all three are on my geekhack thread. They're all a little too rough around the edges to make sense as anything other than personal projects, but they are usable and do have their charms, and I love building these things from scratch.

But when I saw it on one of the slides in the #Colemak DH version, I realized, that it is not THAT different from what I’m currently using and probably it is even better than my current layout.
