I do get upset sometimes that EchoVR is no longer around. I really loved that game and was one of the main reasons I got Quest 2 headset, now there's not much point of a Quest 3 for me.
Meta is deploying chatbots powered by AI to impersonate humans in its discussion groups. The chatbots make stuff up—that is their nature. One invents a nonexistent child. Another pretends to have nonexistent merchandise. It shouldn’t be necessary to explain how vile and poisonous this is, but Casey Fiesler spells it out:
As much as I dislike #Meta / #Facebook, there is no denying that their Meta Quest 3 VR headset is an amazing piece of technology, and very much a 21st century device. Like smartphones, I have this fantasy of setting one up with lots of local apps, time traveling to the early 1950s, and dropping one on a workbench at Bell Labs. Probably would seriously screw up the timeline though.

Meta broni się tłumacząc, że korzysta z dostępnych publicznie danych oraz informacji zamieszczonych przez użytkowników w usługach takich jak Instagram czy Facebook.
Jeżeli państwa członkowskie nie zdążą wstrzymać wejścia w życie nowych zasad przed 26.06, cofnięcie danych nie będzie już możliwe.

#Meta macht es dahingegen extrem kompliziert, Widerspruch einzulegen. Unter anderem müssen sogar persönliche Gründe angegeben werden. Eine technische Analyse der Opt-out-Links ergab außerdem, dass Meta eine Anmeldung verlangt, um eine ansonsten öffentliche Seite einzusehen. Insgesamt verlangt Meta dadurch von etwa 400 Millionen europäische Nutzer:innen einen Widerspruch, anstatt sie um Einwilligung zu bitten.
@carlsetzer@pluralistic I’ve been reporting every single ad on Instagram as spam for over a year now. Every. Single. One. I wonder if I’m going to be able to do that to these ‘unskippables’.
Not sure what to do with my photographs. I used to rely on #flickr quite a lot, but it's been the same since 2000, and far from being the greatest solution.
I won't join #meta#instagram, been off from Facebook for 10 years, so I won't go back in this environment.
What's left? #500px maybe? Or #pixelfed could be a viable alternative today? Or maybe even turn my personal #blog in a platform where I can also share photos? 🤨 🤔
@pabuisson Pixelfed, as I know, is constantly improving. It looks good now. Many users I follow have accounts there. I even plan to introduce there person who didn't use any social media.
I've been boycotting Meta for idk how long, ~8 years? I think QAnon and misinformation spread on Meta skewed the 2016 election, and thus we have Trump, Dobbs, etc.
But #Meta sure seems to be winning this fight. Almost everyone uses their platforms, even young people.
I don't know if I'll keep the boycott going, there are people I'd like to connect with who won't use anything else.
