These are some mountains and craters near the #lunar south pole casting shadows near the dividing line between night and day. The image was made at about 06:00 UTC on 24th February, just a few hours before the #Moon was full.
Close to the center of this image is the crater Malapert A, where the #Odysseus spacecraft has come to rest on its side. The pole itself is 300 km further away in the darkness.
For context, here’s a view of the full moon taken around the same time. The shadows in the detail image are just barely visible around the bottom edge of the disc.

A surprising number of features in the lunar south polar region still don't have IAU names.
Anyhow. came across this picture of the #Moon taken during daylight through our telescope in 2020. The photo was actually done with a mobile phone right up to the eyepiece, so a very amateur bit of astronomy!
True story: Many years ago a group of 5 of us ‘lads’ were walking backing home after a good night in the pub.
Our route took us along a rural road where there were no houses so we decided to ‘moon’ the passing traffic.
When we got to the built up (and better lit) part we decided to stop mooning… except for one.
He stood on the kerb, dropped his trousers and mooned the next car that came along… and promptly stopped. My friend’s backside was right in the passenger’s window. It was a police patrol car.
They pulled him to one side and said to him, “We can arrest you for indecent exposure, which we wouldn’t recommend, or we could arrest you for being drunk and disorderly, which we would recommend.”
The other 4 of us were just stood there p*sing ourselves laughing.
Our mate had the last laugh though as they drove him back to our village without charging him and dropped him off whilst we had to walk.

The LPI #Lunar Summer program is open again for grad students (from anywhere in the world) interested in lunar science and exploration.
I was part of this program back in 2009, which was a lot of fun, despite the fact that we watched Constellation get cancelled from under us. This should be a much better time to get into lunar exploration, and a rare opportunity for non-US students to get their foot into the NASA door.
As I am sure many have heard, the Artemis Project for Kbin is dead in the water. Right now, it looks like Lunar here is the only app that has plans to support Kbin....
