It started with a tip from the local of a “bump on the sea floor” where the fish liked to be & led to the of ’s only known live .

Deep sea Cherisse Du Preez worked with the & First Nations & began searching for the coral in 2021, taking a remote-controlled submersible deep into the ocean in , about 500 kms NW of Vancouver.

About a dozen years ago, I crocheted a coral reef costume for myself, inspired by the big international coral reef crochet project. Random secondhand yarns, lots of hyperbolic shapes. Can't see in these photos, but some of the shapes have tiny beads sewn inside.

"South-east forecast to be literally off the scale - Patch of Tasman sea expected to warm over spring and summer to temperatures that risk significant losses to sea life

Australia’s south-east could be in for a marine heatwave that is literally off the scale, raising the prospect of significant losses in fishing and aquaculture.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a patch of the Tasman Sea off Tasmania and Victoria could be at least 2.5C above average from September to February, and it could get hotter.

Oceanographer Grant Smith said the colour-coded scale the bureau uses to map forecast sea surface temperature anomalies stops at 2.5C. “We didn’t account for anomalies that high when we developed this ... it could be 3C, it could be 3.5C, but we can’t see how high it goes,” he said.
...
South-eastern Australia is a known climate change hotspot with its waters warming about four times faster than the global average."

.

Animated image. In the center, the picture of the Earth with the words "10 tipping points in the climate system" on it. Around, ten circles show the tipping points. They are - Ice sheet melting - Arctic Sea ice declina - Permafrost thaw - Coral reef death - Monsoon changes - Antarctic Sea ice loss - Switch to a permanent El Nino state - Interruption of Atlantic thermohaline circulating - Amazon forest dieback - Forest fires and pests in Boreal coniferous forests

Climate change is an immediate threat to the majority of the world's population.

We need a local, regional, state, national, and international "moon shot" type of concentration of effort using available resources while developing and advancing new science and technologies to counteract the damage humans have caused.

Without this type of all-out, universal cooperation, human civilization, and perhaps humanity itself, are in imminent danger of extinction.

@ConspiracyOfCartographers well, 66m doesn't account for the hydrostatic rebalance of the continents like #Antarctica that will rise significantly due to lack of kilometers of ice.

Last time we didn't have an "ice age" (defined by existance of natural ice on earth) the sea levels were 135m higher than WGS84 and the #Eifel was a #CoralReef...
