Ok I’m doin the thread I said I wanted to do last week. (feel free to mute unless you enjoy a little second-hand drama as a Monday morning treat)
Attn #devrel people! Are you job hunting? Does this pic of search results look familiar? Have you ever seen a bunch of job postings like this from Canonical and thought “gee I should apply to one of these”?
In case you’re not aware - I’m working with the Mastodon team on #DevRel and community 🚀
If you’re building a client on the #MastodonAPI I would love to get connected and help you stay up-to-date. Drop me a line andy@joinmastodon.org and let me know what you’re working on! 🙏🏻
(pls boost for reach / tell the devs of your fave apps)
TIL about another community on Slack who is now being asked to pay thousands to preserve basic functionality 😬
Proprietary tools that offer a lot for free, without fail, will squeeze you. And unfortunately, because of their nature, a lot gets left behind when you inevitably migrate.
When we select tools for our communities, we need to think over longer time horizons.
FOSS options like Matrix for chat and Discourse for forums are the better bet.
Folks, I'm starting my post-#PhD job search low-key on the side while I write up my #thesis.
I have an odd collection of skills - #Linux, #Python, #Jupyter, #pandas, #DevRel, and I've done a lot of work in team leadership and management, and have led a multi-million $ not for profit in the past. Keynote speaker.
I'm looking for something that harnesses all of these skills - and it will be a senior role with senior pay, given my experience, qualifications and proven capability. I have time and will be discerning about my next step.
Job titles that might fit here would be Senior Research Engineer, Engineering Lead, Lead AI Engineer or similar.
Looking for fully remote work, with one day a fortnight max in #Melbourne, AU. If you don't believe in #RemoteWork or #WFH, we're not a good fit.
Super keen on something full time rather than splitting my attention over multiple part-time roles.
Looking to start around August, so a fair amount of lead time.
Keen on organisations that have strong values alignment - #FAIR and #CARE data use, #EthicalAI, AI for social good.
Hi folks, I'm back on the job market! I would love to work with the dev community or engineering in Node.js, JavaScript, C#, ASP .NET, or SQL. I'm especially interested in using my illustration skills! Please help spread the word, and thank you!! #DevRel#OpenToWorkhttps://reverentgeek.com/about/
Just realizing that I never ended up posting this here, and I know it's Saturday but here we go anyway:
I'm actually looking for work!👀
I'm looking for #devrel (with a specialization in #devex, web standards and OS communities) or #fullstack eng roles (primarily #javascript but I dabble in half a dozen other languages, from Rust to Go to embedded C/C++ & happy to learn), have quite a bit of experience/interest in #webassembly, #cloudnative and can hold my own in #devops (e.g. the #RustFest infra used for the EuroRust live stream was hosted by us).
I am based in Tallinn, and looking exclusively for fully #remote (ideally seasoned async/flexible remote teams and I am happy to help building a great culture as well using my previous experience at Mozilla & other companies in the past 7 years).
Also open for part-time and/or contracting with the right people/product.
If you know someone would appreciate an intro, say hello @ https://flak.is
In a thoroughly timely move, I’m re-upping this post thinking about the future of #DevRel in a heterogenous world of social platforms. Apropos of, I dunno, something… let’s call it “X”. https://macaw.social/@andypiper/109930971760423920
I'm looking for my next role! I've been in Developer Relations for ten years 😯 I'm equally comfortable as an individual contributor or people leader. If you know of any #DevRel opportunities, please send them my way! Learn more about me and my experience: https://reverentgeek.com/about/
Please give a very warm welcome to our newest team member, Heather Ellsworth!(@linuxflower)
She's an experienced software engineer, passionate about open source, & even LOVES writing documentation! She'll be joining our Marketing & Comms team as Senior Developer Relations Engineer.
Heather will spearhead our efforts to build a larger, more engaged contributor community, & will help build the tools and systems to support them.
#Monktoberfest may not mandate masking, but they've been thoughtful about ventilation and vaccines ... and then there's this!
I feel good about one way masking as a high risk person given all the other work they've put in.
Of note, when GitHub Universe did the rug pull on COVID precautions last year, it was Monktoberfest's written promise to not relax protections after they're announced that inspired a key part of the @phpledge.
An industry trend I'd have happily missed: Half my team and several others at Sauce Labs were made #redundant ... Including me.
I've given talks, developer tutorials, written blog posts, and played with a lot of testing frameworks. It was awesome and I'm going to miss the folks there immensely.
So now, it's time to look for my next #devrel role! I'd appreciate if anyone has any leads, tips, or suggestions. I do #Ruby for love, #TypeScript for money, I have an attention-grabbing Aussie accent and I love helping other developers learn.
I'm ready for #KubeCon in Chicago this week! Who all is joining me, and who wants to talk about #DevRel and #Community while I'm here?
Who's hiring for an experienced DevRel leader with experience setting and implementing strategy which contributes to the company bottom line (with metrics!! 🤯), as well as driving developer awareness and activation? Let's chat!
In less than 40 minutes, @erinmikail and @remotesynth will be chatting about DevRel, DevOps and more with Matty Stratton. Come be part of the discussion live on YouTube.
Hi, I'm Scott. I've been a blogger since 2005, an author since 2009, & a podcast host since 2016. I've worked for companies like #EMC (acquired by Dell), #Nicira (acquired by #VMware), #Heptio (acquired by VMware), & #Kong; currently I'm working on the #DevRel team at #Pulumi. I post about #Linux, #Kubernetes, #AWS, #IaC, & other technical topics.
On the personal side, I'm a devoted husband, a loving father, & a Christian who strives to love instead of condemn.
Stop using chat rooms (like Discord) as a replacement for tech support forums! Chat rooms and private messaging have a place for synchronous communication, but threads get easily lost, and they’re usually not indexed by search engines. #DevRel#education#stem
Andy explains how Murmel and similar #Mastodon tools help him stay up-to-date on important happenings in the #opensource and #devrel communities. His post is also a good reminder for us to push our efforts towards new groups of professionals that might benefit from using Murmel.
Any #devrel folks on here using CommonRoom? We've been using Orbit in the past, but as they're shutting down I'm out looking for alternatives. Would love to hear what you think!
