The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to protect Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from a conservative coup, torpedoing an effort by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to oust the GOP leader from the top job.
“Speaker Mike Johnson is running out of time to solve his Ukraine aid problem — with pressure mounting inside the Capitol and around the world,” Politico reports.
“If the speaker doesn’t quickly embrace a plan to approve long-stalled foreign assistance, lawmakers in his own party could force his hand by aligning with Democrats on maneuvers that would steer aid bills around him.”
#MikeJohnson is a man worth worrying about. A lot. Beyond his immediate impact on law and government policy as #HouseSpeaker, his association with Seven Mountain Dominionism shows he is a danger to America and freedom as a whole.

Why don't Republicans use ranked voting for speaker of the house. It might be a faster to get to what they need: nominate everyone, then do a second turn with the top 5 vote getters as ranked voting. Would make the process smoother
Always remember, the goal is to keep the government dysfunctional so a budget can’t be passed and a federal government shutdown is forced. Always remember the GOP base will believe anything the GOP tells them when framed adversarial against the left. They will force dysfunction, blame the other side, and their followers will believe it.

About the house speaker thing. From a European perspective, it's clearly an artefact of the bipartisan system. In Europe, the Republicans would be several parties.
A reminder that having no Speaker means the House of Representatives can't conduct any business, and a reminder that THAT'S WHAT THE REPUBLICAN EXTREMISTS WANT.

Non-MAGA House Republicans should just cut a deal with Dems, get 30 or so to vote with the GOP and elect a sane Speaker. Extract a promise to get rid of the idiotic single-vote removal rule. GOP can claim they convinced Dems to cross over to save face with voters.
Also give GOP House reps Secret Service protection, sic the FBI on any who threatens a Congressperson, cause the MAGA loons will come out of the woodwork.
