You get spied on by Microsoft, any asshole in the world knows what to do: you get a Distro with a 25 year reputation, an indestructible economy shitbox laptop, you update once a week and that's your base, get me? That's your fortress of fucking solitude. That puts you, for the rest of your life, at a level of fuck you. Somebody wants to install malware, fuck you! Own your laptop. Have a couple flatpaks. Dont drink. That's all I have to say to anybody on any social level." #linux#debian#copilot
I decided to "mix it up" and change what distro and DE were on one of my #Linux machines, and everything I installed made me angry such that I ripped it out and installed something else that made me angrier. Tried to go back to the original arch but a glitch and a fuckup with the arch installer filled me with rage anew.
Right now it has Debian + XFCE, which I think is good, and I'm gonna leave it alone for now.
What a shitty Linux day. Should have left well enough alone.
I've been toying with the idea of switching to Linux for a while, and its just getting to that point now, you know? I hear Mint is the best for beginners?
Since Microsoft announced their latest spyware, sorry, #ReCall, People want to jump ship to #Linux so I'm gonna give the community some solid advice. The biggest hurtle new users will have to deal with is the community because, to be honest, they are extremely obnoxious FOSS Bros that can't stand newbies or Windows users or non technical people in general, but here's your chance! Here's a chance to really guide people, not badger them into picking Linux just because.
Don't tell a new person to Google the term. Give them a video, a book, a tutorial, something to help them along. Think it's hand holding? Tough luck.
Don't ask them to register to a forum and provide feedback. Offer to give feedback on their behalf.
As for any Disabled person in your life? Just don't recommend Linux yet at all. It's still not ready for non technical Disabled people. Just no! No!
I wrote, briefly, about that at this link, but really, I haven't even scratched the surface yet as to issues with Linux adoption for Disabled users. I run Linux on a VM. I Debloated my own windows, so I stick with that. Just listen to the Disabled community without telling them they don't know why Microsoft is shit. Listen, and then code based on their answers. https://tweesecake.social/@weirdwriter/112481584085153619#Microsoft
I wonder if #Linux has some kind of minimal #qemu and/or #KataContainers way to run x86 applications on an #ARM host, similar to Rosetta for MacOS or the similar WIP Microsoft compatibility.
Glad I switched, fully, to #Linux a few months ago. I'm not a programmer or techie, and struggled with Linux in the past, but compared to a decade ago, the installation was really easy & it the user interface has improved dramatically.
Merci !
We are working on our own VPN, Wireguard with Mesh technology will be open and open source, we will have multiple servers around the globe, a rich API available for users and developers and many more options.
Very soon Midori Browser will have its own VPN available, privacy and security options all integrated to be lightweight, fast and secure.
I didn't think of this earlier but a comment mentioned you could also move the .cache or at least the .cache/kwin/qmlcache into a tmpfs, I have not extensively tested this so I can't say if there are any unintended side effects
