How about a visit to an amazing automotive museum? This one is in Los Angeles, it's called the Petersen and if you're in LA, do put aside a day to go visit this place. Gorgeous building, incredible collection. Buy a pass to enter the Vault, no cameras allowed but you get to see more of their collection, tucked in the basement. All sorts of vehicles!
It's time for another history/museum thread. This one starts in Australia then goes to the Netherlands. It's a long one and it's going to take quite a lot of posts so get comfy.
Hey friends, does anyone know what either of these objects are?
(They were found in a deceased relative's jewelry box.)
Please boost for added eyes, thanks! 😊
The lettering on the object on the left says:
Hadley Made in USA
Both ends open up to 90⁰ and the main body expands and contracts about a centimetre.
A clever person has said that the object in the right is a Writescope telescoping mechanical pencil. Thanks!

My visit to the Ctrl+Alt Museum retrocomputing museum in Pavia, Italy, blew my mind. Why? The hundreds of photos I took speak for themselves, go see them now.
Opened a year and a half ago, the museum is a new and little known geeky gem packed with all sorts of vintage computing hardware and stuff. It's run by a non profit group of passionate collectors, enthusiasts, and makers who also do outreach and education activities.
Today I was restoring a specimen from the Nottingham Natural History Museum's fluid preserved collection. Thisgrass snake was suffering from a severe fungal growth that had formed a plug floating on top of the fluid and smothered the specimen inside. Nasty stuff!
Here are shots showing the same snake and jar before and after I removed the fungus, cleaned the snake and jar, and changed the fluid.
I think the Internet Archive has about a year or less before being closed down. They face multiple lawsuits demanding better collection management - but they have little or no curation at all.
Just go look for yourself: Taylor Swift albums jumbled up with console games, copied blu rays and random video with no tags - a real museum has direction, purpose and the IA needs to staff up and stop being a huge dumpster of random shit. Or the inevitable will happen.
We have #BlackFriday in #finland#today. Nowadays I don't buy anything I don't really need. Today I bought three Nanso night dresses that are warm in the winter, and a #museum card for a year. In Finland it's possible to buy a museum card that gives you access to almost every museum in Finland for a year. It costs 64 euros (69,93 USD) today.
Preparing for voluntary service at our #culturalHeritage centre & #museum. On Sundays, we have a table with women who do #handicrafts and chat. This is targeted #animation so that people become curious, ask questions and watch. And learn more about our centre. Most of the women #embroider, I show #VisibleMending. Other colleagues give guided tours, baked cake, serve in the cafeteria and explain hot #chocolate today. There is a lecture and a special exhibition about chocolate.
#DMB24#Museum#Ausstellung
Nice day out at the #Train#Museum Eisenbahnmuseum Lokschuppen Aumühle just east of #Hamburg it's not big, and today was a 'normal' open day, so you show yourself around, but the children love climbing into the old engines #SteamTrains#steam
New at my Patreon... The NGV asked Iranian-French designer India Mahdavi to create colourful spaces in which to hang Pierre Bonnard's art. But does it work?
So I'm back from my #museum trip. I am severely disappointed by all of the statues having been vandalised. The only intact phalloi I could find were on a relief and a modern reconstruction. I DID meet a beautiful statue of #Aphrodite, though! She even still has a visible slit! I will share the images on Friday, the Day of Aphrodite.
As a sneak peek, enjoy this beautiful bum!
Some thoughts on the British Museum theft: first, I didn't talk to any of the (many) journalists who emailed me about it, partially because I was boarding a long haul flight. Mostly this was because last week there was not enough info to comment, and only enough info to speculate wildly. I'm not up for speculating wildly without facts. I can, however, now speak generally about a few things: 1/ #archaeology#artcrime#museum#museums@artcrime
