Took the kids to Melbourne Museum today to see 'Relics', a temporary exhibition depicting a post-apocalyptic world where LEGO minifigs have risen from the debris to craft new civilisations in discarded human artefacts.

I have to say that this repurposed old Space Invaders cab certainly caught my eye.

A Prominent Obtained Items From a Massacre of Native Americans in 1895. The Survivors’ Descendants Want Them Back.

After the mass killing at Wounded Knee, the American Museum of Natural History received children’s toys taken from the site.

A 1990 law was meant to “expeditiously return” such items to , but descendants are still waiting.

My visit to the Ctrl+Alt Museum retrocomputing museum in Pavia, Italy, blew my mind. Why? The hundreds of photos I took speak for themselves, go see them now.

Opened a year and a half ago, the museum is a new and little known geeky gem packed with all sorts of vintage computing hardware and stuff. It's run by a non profit group of passionate collectors, enthusiasts, and makers who also do outreach and education activities.

Hey friends, does anyone know what either of these objects are?
(They were found in a deceased relative's jewelry box.)
Please boost for added eyes, thanks! 😊

The lettering on the object on the left says:
Hadley Made in USA
Both ends open up to 90⁰ and the main body expands and contracts about a centimetre.

A clever person has said that the object in the right is a Writescope telescoping mechanical pencil. Thanks!

If you’re a computer enjoyer you need to go to the Bloop Museum / System Source in Maryland.

We got to play Missile Command on a Xerox Alto, use an Apple Lisa, do a little computer touching on a PDP-8, replica Altair 8800, and replica Apple I.

There are Curta Calculators and a million other things. I could spend days and days there.

Saying “those are the highlights” does an injustice to all of the other things we saw. It is concentrated ADHD joy.

@inversephase was an incredibly gracious and welcoming tour guide. It’s a museum experience that is so neurodivergence friendly. Flip the toggle switches if you want. :blob3c:

Apple Lisa
Wide shot of museum. Tons of luggables, KayPro, Compaq, Commodore PET, and many more than I can name or identify
Another wide shot. NeXT boxen. Apple computers from many eras: Apple II, IIC, Monochrome Macintosh computers, every version of the CRT iMac, Macintosh Portable, G3-era machines, and more and more

It was refreshing to hear from people with a great appreciation for art, but who are often overlooked when it comes to sharing their opinions about it.

Since this month, we have the piracy museum/collection in-house. Around 2000 illegal disks and cassette tapes with movies, software, and music. The stories behind brands like Twilight, Crazy Bytes, WinWarez, Braun MTV Charts, and Moviebox are now shared in the music, as well as the hunt from the copyright authority to stop this. It's a piece of culture and fits right in the museum!
