Took the kids to Melbourne Museum today to see 'Relics', a temporary exhibition depicting a post-apocalyptic world where LEGO minifigs have risen from the debris to craft new civilisations in discarded human artefacts.
I have to say that this repurposed old Space Invaders cab certainly caught my eye.
How the Ultrawealthy Use Private Foundations to Bank Huge Tax Breaks While Giving the Public Little in Return
It’s a simple bargain: The rich get huge #tax breaks by donating #art, property and company shares to benefit the public. But some donors collect millions while offering little or no public access.
Hello, Myth Lovers! To celebrate International #MuseumDay, we'd love to see your posts about #museums! Which museums have great mythological art? Which are your favourite artifacts? My visit to the Ctrl+Alt Museum retrocomputing museum in Pavia, Italy, blew my mind. Why? The hundreds of photos I took speak for themselves, go see them now.
Opened a year and a half ago, the museum is a new and little known geeky gem packed with all sorts of vintage computing hardware and stuff. It's run by a non profit group of passionate collectors, enthusiasts, and makers who also do outreach and education activities.
Hey friends, does anyone know what either of these objects are?
(They were found in a deceased relative's jewelry box.)
Please boost for added eyes, thanks! 😊
The lettering on the object on the left says:
Hadley Made in USA
Both ends open up to 90⁰ and the main body expands and contracts about a centimetre.
A clever person has said that the object in the right is a Writescope telescoping mechanical pencil. Thanks!
If you’re a computer enjoyer you need to go to the Bloop Museum / System Source in Maryland.
We got to play Missile Command on a Xerox Alto, use an Apple Lisa, do a little computer touching on a PDP-8, replica Altair 8800, and replica Apple I.
There are Curta Calculators and a million other things. I could spend days and days there.
Saying “those are the highlights” does an injustice to all of the other things we saw. It is concentrated ADHD joy.
@inversephase was an incredibly gracious and welcoming tour guide. It’s a museum experience that is so neurodivergence friendly. Flip the toggle switches if you want. :blob3c:
Danke! #Museum#DDR#Alltagskultur
Only by constantly remembering these evil cruelties done by the Nazis we as a society can ensure to never repeat these crimes again.
If you dont follow them yet, I highly recommend you to do so.
Also thanks a lot for the hard work of all the people at the #Auschwitz#Museum
The American Museum of Natural History to Close Exhibits Displaying #Native American Belongings
The change is in response to new federal regulations that went into effect this month following reporting by ProPublica on institutional failures to return #NativeAmerican remains and sacred objects to tribes.
#DelhiRains
It is raining heavily today too, breaking a 41 year record. Just 2 days of #Monsoon#Rain has completed more than its average for #Delhi for the entire month of July!
Since I can't go outside, I might as well stay indoors and play Yo-yo.
(Lonely people must amuse themselves).
Ever been moved to tears just thinking about the beauty and impact of #art?
It happened during this episode of @Flipboard's The Art of Curation podcast — an interview with two security guards from the Baltimore Museum of Art who participated in curating the "Guarding the Art" show in 2022.
It was refreshing to hear from people with a great appreciation for art, but who are often overlooked when it comes to sharing their opinions about it.

Any #museum folk out there? Especially #MuseumEd folk, and especially in the #UK.
Actual museums would be good, especially if they're fairly active & post good stuff, but what I really want is people.
We seem to be few & far between on here at the moment! I'm hopefully going to be dragging a few more into Masto-land so it'd be good to have a ready-made community to introduce them to.
My new side project https://www.colorama.app lets you explore original color photos from the early 1900s on a world map. The first batch consists of over 60,000 Autochromes commissioned by Albert Kahn. More collections coming soon!
nachdem wir die Entwicklungen auf Twitter in den letzten Monaten beobachtet haben, sind wir zu dem Schluss gekommen uns eine Alternative zu suchen.
Und nun sind wir hier 🎉
Was könnt ihr hier erwarten?
Weiterhin gibt es hier deutschsprachigen Content rund um #Museum und #klimaschutz
Neu ist allerdings, dass wir nun Museums for Future #Germany und #Austria stärker zusammen denken und Inhalte aus beiden Ländern teilen.
Since this month, we have the piracy museum/collection in-house. Around 2000 illegal disks and cassette tapes with movies, software, and music. The stories behind brands like Twilight, Crazy Bytes, WinWarez, Braun MTV Charts, and Moviebox are now shared in the music, as well as the hunt from the copyright authority to stop this. It's a piece of culture and fits right in the museum! #HomeComputerMuseum#retro#museum
First thing you should know is the proprietor is great. I was a little concerned this might be a right wing nut location ... But nope! Highly recommend this weird little place. His spiel is great.
