Today's #MythologyMonday is celebrating #InternationalMuseumDay with talk about mythological art in museums :)

One of my favorite museums in the world is the Villa Giulia in Rome. It houses the National Etruscan Museum. It falls outside most quick tour routes, and it is a lovely, peaceful, elegant museum with a very rich collection.

See the pretty vases below, with various mythological scenes :) Recongize them?

One of my favorite museums is The Ringling Museum of Art in Florida. This photo shows one of the fountains in the museum's central courtyard, which displays recreations of notable statues from the Classical, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical periods.

Another day, another unflattering portrait of a public figure, and this time, the Streisand effect is in play too. TIME magazine reports on Australia's wealthiest person, Gina Rinehart, and her attempts to get a painting of her removed from the National Gallery of Australia. The portrait by Vincent Namatjira, an Aboriginal Australian artist, is part of a series in which he uses humor and exaggerated features to portray the rich. “People don’t have to like my paintings, but I hope they take the time to look and think, ‘why has this Aboriginal bloke painted these powerful people? What is he trying to say?’” he said in a statement shared with TIME. The gallery, to which Rinehart is a donor, is not backing down, saying it “welcomes the public having a dialogue on our collection and displays.”

In case anybody has somebody who works in a #Scottish #museum, #gallery, #archive, #library, or any other cultural organisation, I'd really appreciate a boost of this FREE training opportunity: #Maths in #Museums!

It's aimed at anyone who fits the aforementioned bill and is interesting in exploring the mathematical potential of their stories, objects and exhibitions, with participation in Maths Week Scotland in mind.

More photos taken around the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, featuring the hallway, spiraling staircase, a model of a carousel, statue of Abraham Lincoln, an early 20th Century car, post office, and my favorite area: A reconstruction of the Myer Bros. Jewelry Store (1914-1974) which I believe is still the original cabinets, along with some photos of some wares. Shot in June 2023.

In addition to the exhibition, which features 11 artists associated with the Oakland-based nonprofit Creative Growth, SFMOMA has also permanently acquired more than 100 works created by artists with developmental disabilities.

Did you know there is a Crochet Museum? It's very cute.

"Among the eclectic collection you’ll find just about every conceivable type of item, represented in crochet form. There are animals like poodles, bears, and unicorns. There are also more abstract designs, like smiley faces and lumpy little creations that are less identifiable."

The museum is free and open 24/7.
