I know it's weird... but it's indiedev. It so happened that the Erra: Exordium game for Nintendo will have two release dates. The game is already on sale today for the American region, for others on May 23
What if #Activision had kept the same sprit and pace they initially started with when they broke from #Atari? Or if #Square did likewise for the early Final Fantasy era? Or #Rare from the #nintendo 64 era?
Maybe it was ultimately an unsustainable pace, but my goodness their glory days were glorious.
In 1995, Nintendo released its Virtual Boy, touted as the first console that could display stereoscopic 3D graphics. By the following year, it was all over, with the Virtual Boy dismissed as a commercial failure. Here's an extract from @arstechnica reporter/tech historian @benjedwards and Dr. Jose Zagal's new book, "Seeing Red: Nintendo's Virtual Boy," covering the development and demise of the console, and the philosophy of Gunpei Yokoi, the designer behind it.

I explicitly bought this one recently because I have so fond childhood memories. It must have been one of the few I owned and therefore read endless times. I still remember so much of the content and now I'm excited to refresh these memories.
The cover shows Asterix & Obelix, a PAL exclusive game series. 🐗
From Pong on the Atari to Mario Bros on Nintendo there as a massive leap in what appeared to be possible on such limited hardware. The hardware engineers and software developers at Nintendo were able to achieve such an amazing result due to their clever solutions.
Today we have these modern AI systems which clearly have limitations. I am now thinking what would it take for this same leap from Atari to Nintendo. We know there are problems with GenAI, but what could be done with it with these known limitations? The possibilities are still pretty hard to fathom. #AI#GenAI#Nintendo#Atari
For once the Nintendo store's "register your interest" thing worked for me as I've been able to preorder a copy of the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Deluxe Set that comes with all those cool extras and a physical version of the game of course.
Had so many instances in the past where I had registered my interest but then never got the follow up email and missed out on their limited editions. It's nice to have it finally work. #Nintendo
