Inauspicious start to the morning: got out of bed (late, tossing and turning due to torrential rain), landed in a cold, wet puddle. Pardon me while I got make some coffee. #rain#CAwx
Interestingly – and given my increasing and yet still rather limited sample size – it seems radon levels are higher during rain.
(I got a real-time radon sensor a little while back to see what the levels are like in our 70-year-old rental house. Spoiler: they’re not great but they’re within Irish safety limits. Not that there’s any safe level of radon, from what I’ve read.)
A few weeks ago I shared another colorful rain image of a #gay couple in the #rain and I was contacted by someone who hoped I might do a version where the men's faces were less visible, which was funny enough my original vision and I had taken a U-turn. I was happy to oblige. Hope you enjoy the latest!
Okay, who broke the ICON weather model?!?! Total rain for Ojai from 2/1/24 10am to 2/7/24 7pm says... 23.38 inches in the Ventusky display of ICON. #wx#CAwx#rain#ICON
And there's so much to delight in the Discworld, but it is raining outside & when I am out in the rain I always think of Granny Weatherwax, refusing to hunch up & just moving through it.
I've never managed to avoid getting drenched without aid. Indeed, when dashing out to the bins in a downpour I will wear the umbrella hat we mysteriously own & deep down I think she would approve of the pragmatism of the decision.
For California weather watchers, that other place 🙄 has had quite a meltdown this week (rampant misinformation by "blue check" nobodies)... rumors, more rumors, angry and hurt meteorologists and scientists... more rumors.
While we can say confidence is increasing in widespread rain chances next week, we can't quite comment on how much precipitation we'll see, and exactly when it'll happen. Those details at this point in time are very uncertain. #CAwx
Key takeaway: If there's a legit reason to worry about next week's rain, we or another core NWS partner will let you know. Please be conscious of where your weather info is coming from and ensure it is a credible and professional source. #CAwx
Radar at 12/21 1804 currently shows the storm is parked offshore from Los Angeles (dumping quite a bit there). Still raining in Oxnard. #rain#CAwx#LosAngeles#SanDiego
Earlier this year I decided I was going to try to grow tomatoes. I only have a small garden, but I managed to find a mini-greenhouse so that I could give the young plants a head start during the sometimes chilly Spring weather in northern England.
I bought lovely peat-free compost for them to live in, and dutifully watered and fed the plants. And during the couple of weeks of warm weather we had in late spring they flourished.
But now for the last month or so I've had lots and lots of very large, very plump, and very very green tomatoes.
I don't know what gods hang out on the Fediverse - only the coolest ones no doubt - but if any of them read this, could you please send just one week of weather that's sunny and warm (not hot, I don't want Med-level hot, just warm) to north west England.
BBC: Storms ravage northern Italy as Sicily burns "Meanwhile, northern regions are reeling from violent storms and high winds that uprooted trees and lifted roofs off buildings. In some places, tennis ball-sized hailstones injured people, damaged cars and destroyed crops... Lombardy and Veneto experienced torrential rainfall and extremely strong winds, which reached 100km/h (62mph) in Milan. Much of #SantaBarbara and #Ventura Counties are at a "High" risk for excessive rainfall @NWSWPC
-- this mean there is a 70% risk of meeting flash flood rainfall conditions
❗️80% of flood-related DAMAGES and 40% of flood related FATALITIES occur during high risk days❗️
Whenever I see forecasts like rain for this weekend, I chuckle (not because of the potential for death and destruction, but because of this -- fake movie prop -- book)
