Again, DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OFFERS FROM US PRODUCTION COMPANIES. They are trying to use you as strike breakers, and you will end up barred from the industry once they drop you after the strike is over.

VW is raising workers’ wages 11% because of competition from unionized manufacturers, even though their workers aren’t unionized. Hyundai announced a 25% wage increase over the next four years, even though their workers aren’t unionized.

raise wages for everyone, not just unionized employees. Imagine how much greater workers’ bargaining power would be if more would .

I read a dad's post today about how hard it was for his kids to remain masked at school when everyone else is unmasked. It takes such courage. I made this for all the kids still masking. I applaud you and thank you. Please feel free to print it out and give it to your little heroes.

United, the independent labor union for Trader Joe's employees, is currently not calling for a boycott in response to management's attack on the constitutionality of the (National Labor Relations Board).

Right now they are "asking folks to support Trader Joe’s United by signing on in solidarity and letting us know you’ll stand with us if we call for a customer strike!"

GOOD NEWS ALERT!
The people of Poland have voted for democracy. The opposition has won a majority of seats and the authoritarian PiS is defeated.
The main factor was huge turnout.
Voting matters.

My union, SAG-AFTRA, is striking in Hollywood. It represents 160K movie and TV actors, as well as about 500 staffers at NPR. We journalists are not part of this strike but we support our fellow union workers!!!! ❤️ ❤️
I was never part of a union before coming to NPR but quickly learned the power of colleagues helping each other to be treated fairly at work!!!

A propos of the poor being a punching bag for the political right, the criminalisation of poverty and the ugly rhetoric they embrace every time they need votes.

Know your enemy.

We can do better. We can look after each other. is the way.

Today in Labor History May 26, 1824: Women and girls led the first recorded factory strike in US history. 102 women and girls walked off the job at Slater Mill, in Pawtucket, and picketed their factory.
Two days prior, the owners had increased working hours by an hour per day with no additional pay. Additionally, they slashed the pay of power-loom weavers by 25%. Those affected were all women and girls aged 15 to 30. According to the bosses, the girls had already been earning “extravagant wages.”

The owners were caught off guard. They were not expecting a protest. Indeed, no U.S. factories had ever experienced a strike. Perhaps even more shocking, other workers and community members joined them in solidarity. They blockaded the mills and hurled rocks at the mansions of the owners. On the final day of the week-long strike, workers set one of the mills on fire. The next day, the owners agreed to negotiate and agreed on a compromise.

Here’s a thought experiment: If you had a small group of skilled mobile, desktop, server, and web front-end engineers who have access to time and money, and are eager to MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE USING THEIR SKILLS (and not just spin up yet another exploitive startup) what would YOU have them do?

Be specific.

Assume cost is no object.

It’s time to stop bellyaching about how bad tech is, and start brainstorming about what good it can do.

Please repost for exposure.

EDIT: Let’s add hardware, industrial design, and UX engineers in the mix as well, to round things out.

US: attention, Trader Joe’s shoppers, the TJ’s union wants to know how many people will support a strike of this union busting food chain.

They are not calling for a boycott at this time. Random boycotts only make things harder for workers (low sales can lead to layoffs). They’re asking for solidarity.

Today, like many other West Australian teachers, I'm not going to work this morning.

It's interesting that our industrial action is represented in the media as about pay. We're not striking over salary - we're striking because the system is broken.

My son has had no Phys Ed teacher all year. He's had a procession of relief teachers which, for a special needs child, is extremely distressing. He attends an inner city public school, but staffing shortages are statewide.

Speaking of special needs students, I'd like to look after my own without having to skip lunch to ensure their needs are met.

I'd like the Education Department to give me a personal device so I can do my job
(more efficiently). If I want a laptop, I have to lease one.

I'd like an acknowledgement of how teaching has recently become more difficult and demanding, especially during #COVID19, when we kept schools open and tried to keep students safe.

I enforced the mask mandate far more often than a rank-and-file police officer. I've probably been threatened and assaulted more times than many police officers too. And the statewide mobile phone ban? Guess who enforces that every single day.

So many of my colleagues have left teaching: re-trained or resigned due to burnout and stress. Who suffers? The students.

It's not about the pay. We're tired, and we need support. We're underfunded and under-resourced. We need to improve conditions for students. We need to fix the system.

In Belgium, airport unions have called on members to stop handling weapons bound for Israel.

In Denmark, workers have blocked all entrances to the Søborg plant of the Danish arms company, Terma.

It's so frustrating to see the absurd extent to which the late-stage capitalists are looking to extort and exploit us all.

WP:
Actors and writers are encouraging fans to join the picket line in their local area to increase strike visibility. They say people can bring signs, water and snacks to picketers.

Crabtree-Ireland said strike supporters could aid the effort by amplifying the union’s demands with social media posts and donations to fundraisers for SAG-AFTRA members. Boycotting projects made by the AMPTP is not the priority, he added.
