A decade ago I wrote a much-read piece for Traveller on how to travel with cabin luggage only. They asked me to revisit the concept in 2023, so here it is...

Ditch the checked bag: How to pack for a holiday bringing only carry-on

OK, what am I missing?

Why would a product labeled "power adapter" have a way to plug into a UK outlet (standard 220v) and have a way to plug a US prong into it (standard 110v)

BUT ALSO BE LABELED "NOT A VOLTAGE CONVERTER"?

Am I to understand that if I plug a standard US cord in I will get 220v into my device? Why would that be useful for anyone not attempting to start a fire?

I just now returned from my first multi-day trip of the season! Set up base camp 2,000’ below one of the summits in the White , , summited the next day, returned to camp for the second night, then hiked back to the trailhead on day 3. As expected, I experienced varied conditions from dry dirt to mud to and . Had a blast!

Photo of me standing alone at summit of Bondcliff peak. I am wearing a broad rim hat and backpack, and holding two trekking poles in one hand. Rock slab begins at camera and extends to where I am standing. Distant mountains are viewed at horizon. Rock is greenish gray, my jacket is blue, and sky is blue with clouds.

@SusanHR oh yes. That is one of the things I enjoy the most is learning about a culture that is very different than my own,

More ramblings for my recent . There were significantly fewer people in T2; virtually no one was there after 11pm (me among ones requiring an overnight transfer...). Although the airport is 24/7, very few facilities are open after 10pm, so I guess the industry hasn't walked out of the woods yet... But at least they don't jack up the prices: drinks of the same type costs double in (with only Coca-Cola-owned/licensed drinks!) compared to ...

I just won a rail pass (i can travel around Europe for free) and I'm wondering how hard it would be to have cheap accommodations.
I mean, camping is an option, but I'm afraid that it's difficult and could be dangerous.

Any travelers out there, who could give me some pointers?

“Chung Wui Mansion”

Nestled in the old Hong Kong district of Wan Chai, the Chung Wui mansion sits right in the middle of an intersection, similar to New York’s Flat Iron Building, but with a lot more pastel flair.

Some ramblings for my recent . does offer a option (with ingredients prepared in South Korea, not your origin airport), but it requires mixing the ingredients yourself... There's also a soup (restored from powder)... So you should certainly be aware if your flight is being quite rough (for me it caused migraines, so imagine how stressed I was trying to eat that meal).

I am now making an official thread considering how often I use this form of public transportation!

2023.05.29 Update
I am now just documenting all of my travels here, as well as the transport necessary to go there, which is usually trains.

2023.06.16 Update
As I’ve fallen a bit behind on documenting my travels (busy months) I’ve begun posting my trips live to my backup Mastodon account @ErikUden in the following thread: https://social.uden.ai/@ErikUden@mastodon.social/posts/AWk0JcHS3OYtSNA6lc

This would be done on this account, sadly Träwelling, the train/tram/bus trip recording client I use ( @traewelling ) doesn’t yet support anything but Mastodon to auto-post to. Once is done and ready, my trips will be Auto-posted on my main account there (or I’ll make a separate train account, not sure yet).

2023.06.29 Update
I’ve decided to put travels that happened mostly within an city with city transportation (bus, metro, tram, etc.) as part of the same trip into one post! If such a thing is documented, then my description of what happened on that trip will occur in that post, not the post about the way back as was the case previously.

Now coming back home to Norden after an elongated weekend! The JA!NUN festival for which I travelled through Hannover in the first place was great, but staying in Hannover for my comrades from the Linksjugend (Left Youth) and attending the 8th May remembrance event, as well as coming back to the legendary youth house / (Unabhängiges Jugendzentrum Korn), was incredible as well!
