@dancinyogi My mother has moved to a smaller place twice as she has aged. But she won't give up her stuff. There's a set of 8 indoor chairs rotting on the porch because there's no place to put them. The garage is full of furniture from my grandmothers and great-aunts that hasn't been used since they died 20 to 40 years ago. It's a nightmare.

We all understand the urge to retaliate, but all this punishing war against Gaza will do is generate recruitment videos for Hamas. Israel claims their motive it to “crush” Hamas, but they know full well that urban combatants are almost impossible to separate from the civilians they look exactly like. And most of them are young people who have grown up knowing only a brutal occupation. Each one killed just radicalizes their families. This is just an act vengeance, not a rational strategy.

@shoq I think the excessiveness of the atrocities Hamas committed served a purpose; to force Bibi to go into Gaza and commit atrocities to drive recruitment and support for Hamas.

The rational approach for Israel would be highly targeted and limited operations vs. Hamas, and using the atrocities to lever Hamas's allies away. But Bibi can't do that; he'll look like a weakling for not taking revenge for the atrocities he apparently allowed to happen.

As many of you here, and as all of you who have met or worked with me, know, I am an Israeli.

I’m also a life long peace activist for Israel-Palestine.

Unfortunately, MANY of you have taken the last few days to attack me, call me a murderer, lecture me about the world I grew up and lived in for 35+ years of my life, dare to speak down to me and over me, erase my history and lifelong dedication for Palestinian rights, and even wished me to die.

Others of you have taken the opportunity to call me an antisemite, a race traitor, a horrible person, a hypocrite, a terrorist, and erase my history and lifelong dedication to Jewish life and making Israel a better place to live.

Yet, VERY FEW of you have asked how I am. How is my family? How are my friends? How are YOU?

Well, no. I have my family & friends in deep crisis. Many have lost their own other family and friends, parents, siblings, kids and lovers - some by bullets, others by fire, others by kidnapping. A comrade of mine lost his parents. An other had their 16 year old son taken into Gaza. Too many people I know or am connected to have been murdered or taken. And I use the word murder, not killed, because sleeping civilians in their home or at a party are not military combattants. Babies aren’t targets.

I also have Palestinian friends who have lost families in Gaza from the bombs currently falling from IDF planes. My heart aches for them too as theirs does for me.

But many of you only care about death when one side fits your own narrative and unformed and ignorant beliefs.

So no, I’m not OK. I’m not OK at all.

So I found a bug in the programming language I was using, and someone made a PR to fix it, so I tried testing the PR, but testing the PR caused me to discover a different bug in the programming language, so someone made a PR to fix that, but testing that PR caused me to discover a bug in the package manager, so I went to file an issue on the package manager, and while testing configurations to write the bug as helpfully as possible I found a second bug in the package manager

@Sheril The most important thing is to vote for candidates, at every election and at every level of government, who will take action to stop climate change. From city councilors who support bike lines to Senators funding green energy, we have to get political power because only that can stop fossil fuel companies.

So, having mostly moved from twitter to mastodon, one thing I've discovered that I really like is feeding-the-trolls seems quite rare? Like, on posts I'll very occasional get someone behaving twitter-like (meaning a combination of assuming the worst and then speaking as if to a mob) and... here they're generally just ignored.

@ZachWeinersmith Trolling doesn't get amplified by an algorithm. A troll can harass an individual, but if they troll a group members of that group won't amplify it so very few see it. The troll quickly learn it doesn't work and stop.

Thoughts this photo brings to mind:

Toilets have lids because when you flush a toilet it creates a torrent of micro droplets that settle on all of the surfaces in the bathroom. It's important to shut the lid before flushing.

Many people are unaware of this.

(I'm all for trying new and different things, but sometimes "you never see x" because x is a terrible idea.)

@mastodonmigration Mastodon was "no text search" when current users joined, so search should be opt-in. Don't make major privacy changes with active user permission. That's what Facebook does, and one of the big reasons I avoid using them.

If you are a white leftist and you talk “both parties are the same they are both capitalist” you will loose most of your black audience. I think it ought to be obvious that this isn’t because blackfolks love Democrats (in most cases, there is always someone being simple in any group) —no. it’s because the difference between the parties is material and obvious and these are unstable times.

When I hear such talk I wonder if the speaker is working on voter suppression.

@futurebird I don't wonder. The differences between the two parties are so enormous on climate change, reproductive rights, tax equity, minority representation, and so much else anybody saying they are the same is pushing some dishonest agenda.
