Are there good alternatives to Patreon? What do people usually use for regular financial support of fans? Speaking more for my open source game development work. I mean, I don't have a problem just putting a price on things, but my goal is to share knowledge and letting people play the games without having to compile the games themselves is important to me. I just think that Patreon has too much baggage at this point to be useful.

If you want a site where you can upload files and have a minimun price people pay, something like Gumroad (https://gumroad.com) or Itch (https://itch.io/search?q=ttrpg) could work.

If you just want a separate donation page, LiberaPay (https://liberapay.com) maybe?

Is it possible to have remember my cookie preferences for websites? I've searched it, and read the cookies article on Mozilla support, but didn't find anything. I'm getting tired of being asked about cookies every single time I go to some websites, would like to set them to "necessary only", and not be asked again. I feel like I'm missing something.

Not sure what it's called in english, but there is something in the cookies setting for it. It's the button next to the text/checkbox for setting that Firefox should delete all cookies when you close the browser.

    The common social media sites have equivalents e.g.:

    Twitter > Mastodon
    Instagram > Pixelfed
    Youtube > PeerTube

    What about sites that aren't social media? Thinking of Etsy, Gumroad, Patreon etc which are marketplaces/e-commerce/funding orientated. Though of course they may have some social media elements e.g. comments.

    Would self-hosted (or shared-hosted) Fediverse equivalents make sense in these spaces?

    Debating on a story skip for ARR and HW in ... I've never actually don't the story before and I feelmloke Stormblood would be a good place to actually try and start? There's just SO DAMN MUCH!

    I wouldn't skip either.
    ARR starts off a bit boring, but introduces a lot of characters and concepts that will be important later. And Heavensward is awesome. ^^

    Hey friends! What's a good for a 15 year old laptop? 🙂
    3 gigs of RAM, some kind of dual core and a built in Intel GPU.
    I was thinking Xubuntu or Lubuntu, but I'd prefer something without Snap -- although I can always just uninstall it.
    DE-wise, I'm usually on Gnome, but that might be too hungry for such a little machine. 😅 Probably as good a time as any to look into Sway.
    It'll be used for browsing, watching videos locally and some old point & click adventures. 😁

    Maybe Linux MInt? It's based on Ubuntu but does not come with Snap installed.

    You can choose the languages you see in the settings, but it's based on the language people set for their post, so if that is set wrong I don't think there is anything that can be done.

    I am at ~360€ now (with 40 items) and want to get down to somewhere between 20-50€, so I don't spend too much money on games I may actually play... :blobcatgiggle:

    Side-info: I may also be getting a and mainly game on so games running nicely on one of those platforms are definitely preferred...

    For me it works when I look up syncforlemmy@lemmy.ml (without the exclamationmark in the front). Does that work for you?
