A story about my mom and Trump.

My mom was an executive assistant for two Jewish brothers who ran a construction company in the '80s. They were in competition with Trump on some real estate deal and lost out to him. For some reason they had to make a pilgrimage to Trump Tower to go on bended knee. When one of the brothers introduced mom, Trump his usual graceful manner said, “Which one of these two Jews did you have fuck to get your job?”.

Columbia's faculty panel criticized their administrations handling of the protests.
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/columbia-university-president-faces-vote-confidence-protests-spread-2024-04-26/
Please read down towards the bottom where the student who shouted "Zionist don't deserve to live" apologized. If Columbia had informed leadership that understood academic environments and colleges students, this could have happened the day after the event occurred. The president CHOSE escalation over de-escalation.

A short 🧵. This piece by @lpolgreen is extraordinary. So many people, including my friends who have very different perspectives on the conflict in the Middle East, are absolutely certain they know what’s going on on college campuses, including mine. Polgreen has done us all a service here, by doing some deep reporting on what is happening at Columbia. She also debunks one of the more serious accusations made here at Yale. 1/ https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/26/opinion/columbia-student-protests-israel.html?unlocked_article_code=1.nU0.BjO_.bWl1YxNQ5kkI&smid=url-share

@fulanigirl@blacktwitter.io avatar

@gregggonsalves @lpolgreen The story in the NYT (posted by Gregg Gonsalves) also highlights what I was saying yesterday. The worse and most vile comments are not coming from the students at Columbia. This, in conjunction with the student apology shows that the anti-genocide protests at universities can go on with safety for Jewish students assured if the university administrators were interested in that happening. Most are not.

@Yehuda sorry to hear of your family trauma. That trauma is repeated in all communities in that region, yours as well as others. Also, since the labor movement late 1890s forward provocateurs have infiltrated many movements to cause division. I can't image this would be different. Are some liberals racist...yes. Are some antisemitic? yes. Some anti-black? yes. Anti-indigenous? Yes. This is not "the left" as a unit. That's all I'm saying, Your paint brush is seems very broad. That's all I got.

America has a problem with oppositional defiance and it's only going to keep making things worse.

We got maga because white folks didn't like being called out on their bullshit.

We have resist libs cheering on police brutality bcs they don't like Biden being criticized.

We have folks on the left claiming that loan forgiveness never happened despite hundreds of billions being forgiven.

Just flush the country down the toilet.

In light of discussions recently this story about a protest seder was interesting. It has roots in the civil rights fights of the 1960's, so it is not a unique or particularly horrible event now. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/stop-arming-israel-passover-protest-brooklyn-harkens-back-1969-freedom-seder-2024-04-24/

I'm sure both some of the student protestors as well as the ones supported by ADL have probably crossed the line BUT don't forget about provocateurs. They are out there, usually provided by govt or its allies. COINTELPRO.

@leswarden @dangillmor
Example: members of Congress do have election matters within the scope of their responsibilities while presidents do not. This may have discouraged Smith from charging members of Congress who aided Trump with the election conspiracy. One could argue they have a plausible defense to why they made calls to state election figures. That could make a prosecution messy. A prosecutor will want the cleanest case possible. That's my take on it. 2/2

Today was the 10th anniversary of the National Coalition of Incarcerated and Formerly incarcerated Women & Girls march in support of the over 150,000 women and girls incarcerated in the US. Beautiful day for a march and rally. Write to Biden and encourage him to grant clemency to Michelle West (31 years in) and other women locked in cages. Petition your governors as well. Trapping women in cages does not make our societies better. FREE HER!

Since people are talking about Kent State, Ohio, 1970, it's a good time to talk about Jackson State, Mississippi, 1970.

Similar situation, except there was no active protest, just a bunch of students hanging out. The mayor of Jackson declared a riot and called in the pigs. Someone threw a glass bottle, not at the pigs, but they still opened fire. Phillip Gibbs, a student at Jackson State, and James Green, a high school student who was walking home from his job, were murdered by cops. Many others were wounded.

Sepia-toned photo of a couple in a casual seated pose, looking towards the camera. She is on the left, nearly sitting on his lap, smiling, wearing a dark knee-length dress with buttons up the front and a wide collar, holding a white purse. Her hair is straight, shoulder-length, curled at the end, with bangs. He is wearing light-colored slacks and a boldly patterned shirt, like a Hawaiian short, and has his arm around his wife. His hair is short and his expression is more curious than friendly.
