Little foggy this morning. Woke to the delightful bleat of the fog horn sprinkled with the occasional honk of a goose. Aubrey Island, St. Lawrence River. #camping#naturephotography#ontario
Here's another of my favorite #bird photos from our recent #camping and #birding trip. This is a Prothonotary Warbler and one of my favorite species. They are sometimes called swamp canaries because of their preference for wet habitats. #birds#nature#wildlife#Wisconsin
My husband and I are on our annual spring #camping trip to enjoy the bird #migration. There have been so many fabulous tropical #birds who have come through southern #Wisconsin southern far this year. This Wood Thrush, one of my favorite species, has been serenading our campsite for over an hour. #birding#birdwatching#nature
Yay - verified that a #Trangia sealing dispenser valve (for their camping fuel bottles) does indeed fit perfectly on an #MSR fuel bottle.
Getting any Swedish Trangia gear here seems almost impossible, but I've coveted one of these dispenser caps for ages. Saved a few bucks and I get to reuse my MSR bottles by just buying a replacement dispenser cap.
As camping season in the northern hemisphere is upon us, I offer my yearly reminder that almost any meal can be encased in a large tortilla, wrapped in foil, frozen, and reheated on a campfire or camp stove.
When you variety-pack a cooler full of homemade frozen "burritos," you have more time to chill by the fire and enjoy the view.
I have a special connection to #WildRiver#StatePark as it's the last place where I went #camping with my beloved #dog Gunnar. Gunnar was truly the best dog ever. He's been gone since March of last year but sometimes the #grief comes on so suddenly that it's like being punched in the gut. I miss him terribly & I treasure my memories of walking through the prairie grass and sitting by the river.
Back in the comfort of home after a rejuvenating 2-day #camping trip.
Sadly, the main #hiking trails at the state park were closed due to recent rains, but a nearby town forest made up with its well designed and marked multi-use trails.
We hiked the entire trails, which was just 7kms but offered great nature. Also, you can see from the map why we were so turned around in the forest that we'd no clue where we were after just minutes inside.
Two short hikes Thursday morning before leaving the state park. The second hike was on an ankle-bending rocky trail with steep gradients, not surprising because parts of it are popular for rock climbing and rappelling.
Incredible views of the forest, lake, and rocks. Decent cardio workout as well. 😉
