I have a special connection to #WildRiver#StatePark as it's the last place where I went #camping with my beloved #dog Gunnar. Gunnar was truly the best dog ever. He's been gone since March of last year but sometimes the #grief comes on so suddenly that it's like being punched in the gut. I miss him terribly & I treasure my memories of walking through the prairie grass and sitting by the river.
We had a long walk, further up to the area where we haven't been to. Nice views of gushing water in the creek. We had a scary moment, though. A long story short, Kengo slipped, his harness came off, and he tumbled down a steep slope, and I had to slide down to get to him. All good but we were shaken up and very muddy. I'll be a more responsible dad next time.
Sweetwater Creek State Park in GA, USA
2019 was such a great year for wildflowers! #opcOnThisDay we enjoyed several great blooms in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park after meeting up with some nomadic friends who were passing through.
A rare sunny Saturday morning. A bit too many people and dogs were in the Sweetwater Creek #Statepark in GA, USA, whom Kengo wanted to get to. People just don't care and walk by so slowly as I hold him tight to stay away from them. SMH. It was a nice walk, otherwise.
I am always amazed at the power of water, whether it is one drop at a time falling onto a rock over centuries, or a massive confluence that gathers strength until it plunges over a sheer cliff into the bubbling pool below.
Visited Dinosaur Valley State Park, TX last week. The dino tracks in the Paluxy Riverbed are such a cool site. To think we can today walk where those humongous beasts walked ~130 million years ago. 🫢 🦖 🦕
There are so many tracks at one of the sites that the site is called "Ballroom".
It started at 46F this morning. We took a long rough 5-mile trail walk, well I got lost so make it a 5.5-mile walk in Sweetwater Creek #statepark in GA, USA. It started very easy as seen in this post, but it got brutally rough. Well, 3.45 hours later, I'm not sure if we will do it again. #dog#dogs#DogsOfMastodon#AdoptDontShop#rescuedogs#photography#FujiFilm
A quick late afternoon walk in our neighbor #statepark reservoir area in GA, USA. Very pleasant weather. People picnicking stupidly throw chicken bones away and Kengo got hold of a couple and ate them. Fortunately no choking. He managed to scare a flock of geese comfortably resting at the shore. You can see his top of the head in the picture where birds flew away. After that, they were swimming happily. #dog#dogs#DogsOfMastodon#rescuedogs#AdoptDontShop#birds#photography#FujiFilm
Roman Nose State Park Entrance by Debra Martz
This state park, located in northern Oklahoma, is named after a Cheyenne Chief "Henry Roman Nose - 1856~1917 who originally owned this 600-acre tract which comprised his allotment. It was preserved by the state as a park to honor him in 1937.
Weather wasn't great, and we had a few drops at the beginning and end of a Sunday walk in Sweetwater Creek #Statepark in GA, USA. We took a longer and tougher route and walked a full 2 hours. Kengo was tired, but his dad was even more tired. It was nice to see older folks walking. We spotted some leaves changing colors. #dog#dogs#DogsOfMastodon#AdoptDontShop#rescuedogs#photography#fujifilm
Fortunately, we escaped any significant impact from Hurricane Idalia where I live in GA, USA. So, Kengo and I made a quick trip to the reservoir of the #statepark . It was humid but below 80F. Some colors starting in the leaves as can be seen in the last picture. #dog#dogs#DogsOfMastodon#rescuedogs#AdoptDontShop#photography#FujiFilm
Starting a new thread of my significant walks and hikes in 2023 (because posting to the thread started with my previous Mastodon account excludes content from my profile). 📓 👇
I feel good about today's early-morning forest hike followed by a dip in the lake. 🥾 ♒
The hike was rather short at just 4.5 kms (2.7mi) but that's all the situation permitted, but happy to have gotten a hike at all given the unending summer and travel.
BTW this was my first hike since April 19th 😯 (have walked ~250 kms since, but not hiked).
