@schizanon post-commit and post-merge hooks are there for people who don't lint their code (or those on a different linter to the other contributors) and for people who don't check if their code is breaking stuff.
Your post makes it sound like you're one of those people, which is embarrassing. Each commit should be its own stable unit of logic you can roll back to (aka, atomic)
