Even great directors can produce the odd turkey. @RollingStone has created a list of 50 truly terrible movies by otherwise excellent filmmakers. But which do you think topped the list? Once you've cast your vote, take a peek at the story and let us know your thoughts. Apologies for shortening the name of Steven Spielberg's 2008 masterpiece — Mastodon wouldn't allow us to give it its full title, which is, of course, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

According to @RollingStone, Francis Ford Coppola's "Jack" is the worst film by a great director. "It’s only grown worse with age, especially since Bill Cosby plays Jack’s tutor," says writer Andy Greene. "And whatever one thinks about the movie today, it was certainly beneath the talents of a titan like Coppola." Our poll voters disagreed, however, saying that Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was the stinkiest stinker. Fun fact: We once almost declined a date with a potential suitor because of his extremely intense and angry reaction to "Crystal Skull." Luckily, he turned it around and, reader, we married him.

WTF? I must have blocked "Jack" from my memory.

@billyjoebowers Certainly the Bill Cosby part of it 😱. According to the article, Coppola was in a slump after "Godfather III" and "The Cotton Club." His followup to "Jack" was "The Rainmaker" (which was decent), plus a couple more turkeys, and he has a movie coming out this year, "Megalopolis."

@CultureDesk @RollingStone The fascinating thing about filmmaking is how often you really have no idea how well or not a movie is going to turn out. Apparently most of the people working on Casablanca, It Happened One Night, and even The Fugitive, thought they were going to be huge flops that would ruin their careers.

@dbattistella @RollingStone Absolutely! Or the opposite: people who thought they were making Oscar-winners that turned out to be stinkers.

@CultureDesk @RollingStone Yes, I was trying to find a piece I read a while ago about actors who turned down starring in movies that became huge hits because they took another role, now completely forgettable, instead, but sadly I couldn't track it down.

@dbattistella Have definitely heard of similar things happening — recently discovered that Jodie Foster turned down the role of Princess Leia in favor of a Disney movie, though she seems to have done ok for herself since then!
