Daegun Chun, accused by #Quebec #RCMP of being the mastermind of a #Canada wide human-smuggling network, is now suing the force and Quebec's attorney general for $100 million after all charges against him were stayed.

After all the fanfare over Chun's arrest, Crown prosecutors quietly stayed all charges against him in 2018.

"When they arrested me they have some big show. And when they finished the case, nobody said anything," Chun told #CBCNews in an interview Tuesday.

publishes the Fraser institute's "but the wealthy already pay almost all of the taxes!"
Of course the wealthy pay most of the taxes. When you have low income the tax bite cuts deeply into your ability to pay rent and feed your family. When you have high income you can pay much more without threat of homelessness or starvation.
That's the basis of progressive taxation.
If the FI wants the poor to pay a higher share they should back a flatter income distribution.

I love news and I love #cbc Radio. It only makes sense to put them together in an app. We now feature 19 local live streams of Radio One in the #cbcnews app, streaming 24 hours a day. Find them under the “Local” tab & listen as you use your phone (my crude screenshots below). The free News app can be had here: https://www.cbc.ca/newsapp/ #journalism #radio

@asiny As usual the CBC headline makes it sound like Canada failed, when the real story is that Sunak and co. didn't get the sweet deal on Canadian cheese they were expecting, so walking away was all they could do. It sucks not to be EU members anymore. And it sucks that Canadians have pro-Poilievre headline writers at

The commercial press has ruined the web with its clutter of advertising. I had hoped for better of NPR. There's no room left on this page for news.

@jeffjarvis Disappointed that goes in for the trashy web experience.

I was impressed that in Canada provides a 'lite' presentation of their content that presents the news without all the cruft. Very civilized.

"With more awareness of neurodivergence, the rates of diagnosis of of autism, ADHD, and a number of learning disabilities such as dyslexia in children and youth continues to climb. More adults are also getting diagnosed later in life. Commonly, this happens when a parent is supporting their child in receiving a diagnosis and realizes through the process, they are also neurodivergent. "

Good Morning
to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, established November 2, 1936. Although some local stations in Canada predate the CBC's founding, the CBC is the oldest existing broadcasting network in Canada. Its creation came about to counter the growing influence of news media from the USA and Canadian National Railways was demanding a national radio network to entertain their passengers.

Apparently thinks it has a journalistic obligation to keep me, a taxpayer informed on the cost of the PM'S vacations. But in the same way I pay for the PM'S vacations I also pay for Poilievre's vacation, the vacations of all MPS, Senators, the Parliamentary cleaning staff etc, and every federal government employee. So to be informed of the vacation costs of the federal government I wait for to report on these other vacation costs, not just the PMs. Hold my breath?

Lisa Raitt says on Power & Politics that Conservatives don’t want to announce any of their policies so that the government can’t steal them. Shouldn’t the Official Opposition be helping Canadians by sharing their policies if they have a possible solution? What kind of competition is this? ALL MPs are working for Canadians, not their Party. Stop politicking and contribute!

Several of you have suggested that Canada’s Boadcaster, the CBC, should follow the BBC’s lead and set up its own Mastodon server. To further this idea, I’ve written the following letter to CBC President Catherine Tait.
Feel free to use the letter as a template if you would like to do the same. She does not appear to have a public email address, but you can reach her by using the CBC’s contact form: https://cbc.radio-canada.ca/en/contact-us

being quite disingenuous here by not mentioning the main reason people loudly expressed a lack of sympathy for the people aboard the Titan, which was the huge discrepancy in coverage between the fate of 5 rich people in danger in the ocean versus 700 poor people in danger in the ocean. Watching our media play favourites between the haves and have-nots is revolting.

If like me you are deeply annoyed by the extensive coverage CBC News is giving to the British coronation, despite all the polls showing most Canadians don't care about an event celebrating another country's system of social inequality, here's the link to the network's Ombudsman where you can politely let Jack Nagler know how you feel about it.
