Hung out with a friend yesterday and he was able—ON THE SPOT—to ACCURATELY estimate how much time it would take us to go to thrift stores and eat lunch.
Registration is open for the next Hacking Executive Function Webinar. This session is focused on Executive Dysfunction experienced by teachers in the classroom, particularly in post-secondary education.
This session will be on October 24th at 11am eastern. Registration form at:
Articles like this focus on kids but these shortages also impact adults. ADHD doesn't magically disappear when we grow up. Losing access to meds affects our ability to work, to drive safely, to manage our families - all things that require executive function. Not to mention wasting time trying to fill prescriptions! #ADHD#ExecutiveFunction
In the best times, my #ADHD brain results in clutter. Sometimes very enduring clutter. #PDA, distraction, #ExecutiveFunction… do I have the energy when there may be space in the bins around the schedule I can never quite remember. L?
Amplify that by 10 or 20 during COVID. I was feeling low about it. I’m starting to make progress. Slowly. Avoid burnout. But it’s nice to see progress. My mood is better.
The Hacking Executive Function Webinar had around 250 attendees! It was amazing to have so many people there.
Many of you were not able to come, and so I have edited the captions and made a recording publicly available. You can watch it on YouTube, or PeerTube (for those of you avoiding the Great Beast).
I also have a new substack, where I will share content related to disability, technology, society, and policy. I will also devote time to answering the many questions I was not able to cover during the session. You will also be able to find out about future events there.
Finally, thank you so much to everyone who was able to donate to Jonmeshia's housing fund. I wanted you to know that because of your support, Jonmeshia is able to move into a new location where she will have better security and stability. When I first started these events, Jonmeshia was in a homeless shelter with her children. Jonmeshia is a black formerly incarcerated mother of 3 who is a neurodivergent burnout too.
Even if you were not able to donate money, know that the attention you gave to this event helped. I would be grateful if you could write about your experience with the webinar on your social media accounts and link to Jonmeshia's housing fund: www.gofundme.com/f/me-and-my-babies-get-housing
Thank you all again,
My best wishes for each of you little neurodivergent beans. <3
Does anyone have a name for overcompensation relating to #ExecutiveFunction issues? Like heavy reliance on physical note taking because you'll forget what people said & to-do/planner apps so you get tasks done, clockwatching so you won't miss an appointment later in the day, trying to proactively handle all possible outcomes of an event or decision. Or is this all just #masking?
It's happening again! I am hosting another executive function webinar!
Details are in the registration form. This one is happening SOON. I will do another one at the beginning of the school year if there is enough interest.
Please share widely and directly to people you think will be interested, as organic reach has been murdered.
Please remember that there is an optional but encouraged fundraiser that I am supporting with this event. No one will be turned away, but every little bit helps keep a single Black mother housed: link in registration.
When I tell em to use an #adblocker my partner dismisses me saying ey sometimes see things ey want to buy because the ads are so well targeted to em.
But it's not the content of the #ads that's the problem; it's that they are there, taking up my #attention. The more targeted they are, the more of my attention they absorb which encourages the #advertisers to advertise more.
3/5 Part of me is actually surprised at how others evaluate my #performance when I know how much of a serious #struggle some of it is, especially #ExecutiveFunction.
These #COVID19 years and working through some of my son’s struggles have take a real toll on me. I shared about my seeking help with that.
The thing is, we tend to evaluate ourselves against an ideal. And sure enough, we fall short, feel bad & expect blame. But managers & others likely evaluate you with respect to normal human performance. Most folks are inefficient even without the high/low spikes of being #actuallyautistic .
I want to take a to-do list and find a way to draw only one task at a time so I don't get overwhelmed by the big picture. Any ideas? I am considering an online "pick a name from a hat" thinger, but I wondered if there might be something more geared toward my actual purpose.
I think the looming reality of multiple shows coming up sent me into a mental tailspin, and I got stuck there for a solid week. Now I NEED to get a couple pieces finished so I can get applications in for the shows in question…
If you struggle with #ExecutiveFunction paralysis, what do YOU do to get yourself moving?
