I regret not getting a photo, but I saw a new style of fake neon sign. It has while LED strips behind opaque material with slots cut for the LEDs and then a silicone or rubbery round tube covering the slots. Anyone seen these before?
I feel like this could be an opportunity for a more open option. Both Google and Amazon have seemingly lost some of their focus on this market because it turns out people aren't just going to ask their voice assistant to buy them something and trust that it's just all going to work out. An open option like #Neon or #OVOS could step in and cover the basic functions. Unfortunately with the demise of #Mycroft, there's no hardware to run it on other than PCs or the #Mark2.
FerretDB enables you to run MongoDB workloads on #Postgres and #SQLite.
Since Neon maintains 100% compatibility with any application that uses the official Postgres release, that makes #Neon an excellent option to consider as the database backend for FerretDB.
New at my Patreon... I was scrolling through photos from my first visit to the USA, and found this weird one. "What the hell?" I thought. "WTF is Moose Drool?"
The Iconic Barrowland Ballroom Neon Sign on Gallowgate in Glasgow.
The Ballroom was first built by Maggie McIver, the Barras Queen, in 1934. On its roof was sign depicted a man pushing a barrow, which is thought to have been the first animated neon sign in the UK.
Saturday I bent all the letters in all the colors for this collaboration with Alicia Eggert. A little bigger than I remember them, but that is nice.
That turquoise wants to stain so much. I got it way hot and bombarded it about 6 times which seemed to help reduces the size of the stains. I think they didn't bake out the binder from the coating? None of the other colors had the staining.
A video of the xenon piece I made on Friday hooked up to a standard electronic transformer. On most of these it has this lightning in a bottle effect. You can hear the arc bouncing off the walls of the glass in its staticy white noise. It's reactive to touch an electrical currents
The stuff lighting up nearby is from the electric fields coming off the wire. Sloppy wiring on this little tester setup.
Not me grinning ear to ear! I spent all day today making a nice color version of the 3D #eclipse Sun and woah its working!
Headed to Dallas, #Texas on Sunday and was gonna drop this off at a studio in Fort Worth for their fundraiser auction, but I think its too big for a carry on.
I will admit- its not as round as perfect as I want, but definitely getting there!
Excited to see it age in fully- should be nice an bright.
Always worth remembering this. Saw this sign last weekend at Middle East Bakery in Andersonville, Chicago. It is a great Arabic grocery store with a small restaurant attached to it. They make many things fresh, including some good spice mixes.
At Moti Cafe in River North. We often go here after Church on Sunday for Chai and snacks. It is the only place you can get a good authentic chai in Downtown Chicago.
