Looks like Nobara Linux is number 2 to make the jump to KDE 6, right behind Arch.
I ran a software update today and there it was.
A warning to you folks who like to customize their desktops: 99.9% of the available KDE global themes currently do NOT work with KDE 6. As I write this, there are only 20 themes available, and I had issues downloading some of them.
Hevy has taken a distro hop from Manjaro GNOME to Nobara 39 KDE, while paying tribute to our favorite bounty hunter.
Congratulations to the team developing Nobara. This was probably the easiest time I’ve EVER had installing and configuring a distro. It found my T420’s hybrid graphics and configured it automatically. Everything worked right OOTB on a 12-year-old ThinkPad.
Bueno ver que en #Nobara 39 la versión oficial tira de #KDE en lugar de #Gnome. Estará muy chulo este último pero pide demasiado recurso para lo que da.
Wow, this is absolutely not a use case the developers care about. They must be laser focused on making a distro to get the steamos experience on... Uh. A steam deck?
What is this actually for if it's not for ally/lgo/ayaneo stuff?
Aaand the ally fixes for #nobara don't work on a fresh install.
I guess I'll just stay on windows. I am not going to spend six hours in a discord room because open source has completely retreated from documentation for users on the greater web.
So question is #fedora a problomatic #linux distro to use? I ended up using it mostly because projects like #nobara and #bazzite are based of it and I don't honestly mind how they work but I also know the red hat kinda isn't the greatest in terms of working the whole #foss deal.
As well is there actually any other #gaming focus #distros out there? I am pretty sure there the notable two?
After upgrading from #Nobara 38 to 39 a paste command is sent every time I unlock. Mostly that doesn't matter, but if the window I had open when the PC was locked was a shared document, then whatever I have at the top of my clipboard is shared with everyone in the document, and I have to notice and press Ctrl+Z to remove it.
I know that I have to do a clean install every time there's a new version of a Linux OS. But I want upgrades to work, so I try, and get disappointed, every time
Now that #Nobara (edit: the "official" spin of Nobara) is switching from Gnome to KDE (edit: but as far as I understand there will still be a Gnome spin?), will my installation be switched over automatically if I run an upgrade from Nobara 38 to 39?
If so: What Gnome 45 distro should I jump to? I'd appreciate it if my games don't run any slower on it, but mostly I just use Firefox, and a bit of Inkscape and Audacity. I appreciate simplicity.
Yeah #Fedora is nontrivial when dealing with proprietary drivers. It doesn't just work out of the box. Your best bet if you want to use Fedora and have an easier gaming experience is #Nobara.
It has been 1 week since my full time move on #linux
Feels so good to have total control over your system. Im still tweaking some stuff and im enjoying every step.
When it comes to gaming i had zero problems so far. I did have a bit of trouble setting EA Origin through #lutris but once i did #masseffect run like on #windows.
I dont see my self going back. For my needs #nobara gives me everything and more.
Dual-booting Windows 11 and Fedora 38. Gaming on Win 11 is, as expected, most times great. I want to migrate to Fedora and use it as a daily driver, and while it does a damn good job at doing just that, it’s disturbingly aweful at gaming. I’ve installed Steam and I set out to try a couple of games to see what it would...
@ragectl@Meowie_Gamer Oh, this is an interesting point. I wonder what will happen if #Nobara or other #Fedora downstream users end up opting in and sending data. On one hand, "not supported", but on the other, still potentially useful info for guaging the broader and direct impact of potential changes and investments, which is something I would definitely love for Red Hat to consider with more weight in general at the moment..
So, I've always been an #Ubuntu fan. However, for work I sometimes need to switch to #Windows for specific applications and also in the past #Linux gaming wasn't well supported, so my #Steam library takes quite a hit when I move to #linux
When I recently switch back from #Windows10 to #Linux, I decided to go with the good ol' #Ubuntu. Because it simply works and it is popular and I have many resources and support to help me. Say what you want, but many of the #Linux kinks and bugs have been worked out of #ubuntu
But damn. I was so fun to be back on an OS that I love, but I actually felt so limited by Ubuntu. I was struggling to figure out whether my GPU drivers are even working and the #SnapStore was unbelievably slow. To the point where I would run speed test and reboot my router, just to realized it just takes 2 minutes to load.
It has always been these small things in #Ubuntu that bothers me.
