BBC reports: "A hole in the ozone layer — the protective barrier of gas in the upper atmosphere — now lingers over the frozen continent for more of the year."
...0.22% of the upper #stratospheric#ozone could be lost from three years of space tourism, 👉which could “substantially offset” the progress done by the #MontrealProtocol.👈"
"Alarming news from New Zealand scientists suggests the #ozone layer might not be recovering after all.
The research published in Nature Communications suggests the Antarctic ozone layer has reduced by 26% since 2004, contrary to previous reports of recovery by actions taken under an agreement called the Montreal Protocol.
Climate change is an immediate threat to the majority of the world's population.
We need a local, regional, state, national, and international "moon shot" type of concentration of effort using available resources while developing and advancing new science and technologies to counteract the damage humans have caused.
Without this type of all-out, universal cooperation, human civilization, and perhaps humanity itself, are in imminent danger of extinction.
Just as we successfully acted to save the #Ozone layer, we can do Everything, Everywhere, All at Once to preserve what remains of our total #environment.
It's terrifying and critical but it's not hopeless, it's possible.
Another reason I'm ready for drone shows to replace fireworks (this is entirely from last night's pyrotechnics — the wildfire smoke had already rained out).
Dear @susankayequinn,
Same thing here in #LongIsland. The 5 July morning after #AQI was similar to your reading. That said, the #Canada#WildFire smoke continues to be a problem, coming and going. Today, however, #ozone will be the primary pollutant coming as it does from #FossilFuel combustion.
Image below is smoke plumes form fire.airnow.gov. Much of it is far up in the atmosphere. Air Quality sensor layer is off. If it were on, much of USA would currently be "Good"
Global warming is only half the impact of excessive #CO2 emissions. The other is rapid cooling of the upper atmosphere which negatively impacts the #ozone
