I was one of the 10,000 #ProtonMail backers mentioned in https://youtu.be/gFZ1peR9SiY and have since personified sunk cost with a >6 TB Visionary plan. But if #Proton dilutes that vision, I will be ahead of you in the line to migrate and unsubscribe.
It's only a dumb rumor, but if this goes down we might as well turn off the lights on #gaming as we know it. Especially all the #Linux and #Proton goodness that #Valve has pushed forward.
I am once again getting the urge to install EndeavorOS but I... only use it to run firefox on it.
Seriously, this is the biggest reason I stopped using Linux; I don't actually use it for anything but browsing the web since gaming just is so much more convinient on Windows and I'm not into Linux for ideological reasons (yet).
I ALSO stopped because the number of bat shit racist libertarians on Linux forums I frequented were souring the experience. But that's another matter.
@RockyC As someone who thinks they're a curmudgeon at the young age of 30, but moreso about life than Linux, I would agree here. I switched to daily driving various Linux distros on my at-the-time company-provided hardware in 2018 onwards. Gaming has certainly improved with the paid work on #proton and #wine I would say.
I think I wrote a blog post about running linux in 2019 here too https://www.s31bz.com/blog/2019/3/7/thinkpad-life-and-the-yearly-distrohop
Hey #gaming#nerds, I have a question. Is there anything like a "container" to run #games in? I want to run some older games, but don't want to dirty up my main #Windows install with whatever interesting choices their developers made back in the #Win95 days. I've considered running a #VM with #Linux and playing the games with #Proton or #WINE, but thought I'd ask here first.
Every year this gets called into question, yet rarely is the full story ever told. In this video, Josh explains what's really happening with these privacy and security apps as well as how it affects YOU directly.
I took the annual @protonprivacy annual survey today and they got generally glowing reviews from me. I have no hesitation about my upcoming annual renewal. That said, I am a bit concerned by the couple of questions regarding AI "features". I don't need a writing assistant, I really do not. I want to be able to access my Proton Drive on Linux and full Standard Notes integration.
"Earlier this year, the Spanish police Guardia Civil sent legal requests through Swiss police to #Wire and #Proton, which are both based in Switzerland. (..)
Wire responded providing the email address used to register the Wire account, which was a Protonmail address.
@protonprivacy responded providing the recovery email for that Protonmail account, which was an iCloud email address, according to the documents."
So my plan with my current #VPN provider expires soon and I’m thinking of moving to #Proton. I like the idea of getting, as part of the plan, extras such as Proton mail - get some control and #privacy over my email accounts (away from Gmail). However, I am a little worried that if I create multiple email addresses I essentially lock myself into Proton’s paid plan… Losing email addresses would be an unnecessary nightmare to manage 🤔
Has anyone else switched to Proton to manage their VPN & emails?
#EU#Spain#Catalonia#Cybersecurity#Privacy#Encryption#Wire#Proton: "As part of an investigation into people involved in the pro-independence movement in Catalonia, the Spanish police obtained information from the encrypted services Wire and Proton, which helped the authorities identify a pseudonymous activist, according to court documents obtained by TechCrunch.
Earlier this year, the Spanish police Guardia Civil sent legal requests through Swiss police to Wire and Proton, which are both based in Switzerland. The Guardia Civil requested any identifying information related to accounts on the two companies’ respective platforms. Wire responded providing the email address used to register the Wire account, which was a Protonmail address. Proton responded providing the recovery email for that Protonmail account, which was an iCloud email address, according to the documents.
In the request, which listed “organised crime” and “terrorism” as the nature of the investigation, Spanish police wrote that it wanted to “find out who were the perpetrators of the facts taking place in the street riots in Catalonia in 2019.”"
