There are whole philosophies around making and mending. Part of it is about making your world a slightly better place.

Changing a thing now so that later you (and possibly others) can have a better experience.

A small nudge toward something better.

My yesterdays animation of #VisibleMending in our #CulturalHeritageCentre. If you're ashamed to walk around with visibly patched or mended clothes, add a few more embroideries or patches to make it look like a deliberate design! My #FrenchKnot #Stitching is inspired by #mosstodon - one day this t-shirt will be overgrown with #3D moss! Read the altTexts for more.

The world is basically going to run out of water by 2050. We are living in a dystopian, pre-apocalyptic movie.

@jodmentum Practicing water conservation needs to start right now. It drives me crazy to watch someone spend a gallon of water to wash out a plastic jug that probably will just end in land fill regardless of what your garbage collection agency says. I try to use all water at least twice. I have a large gallon jug with a cut out. Water from boiling spuds (eggs get air fried) , washing my hands etc goes into the jug & from there the toilet. @ai6yr

Someone at work ordered a bunch of cheap "slap bracelets" for a silly project and I said "Hey, do you think if I cut this open it'll just be an old tape measure inside?"

And yup...

@rasterweb If you cut open a purse made in China or India chances are pretty good that the stiffener will be part of a recycled cereal box. I wish people understood that reusing and repurposing is an even better climate hack than recycling.

Hey fedi, I'm looking for a replacement capacitor for a sewing machine. It's an ERO K4 F1740-325-15. The last two numbers can't be deciphered anymore.
It's 0.025uf, 250V, but so far I haven't been able to track one down, just similar looking ones with different ratings or even more contacts - 3 or 4 instead of 2.
Not sure I can just replace it with something similar enough or if I have to meet the exact rating.

Another picture of the capacitor, showing more of the specs: 250V, 560-7 HPF, -25°C/+85°C, for 3.5mhz

@ai6yr Since you are the only person I know that repairs things: I have old Energizer Weather Ready flashlights that are normally plugged in, switched to the position that keeps the light completely off, but will turn on when the power goes out. On several of them the light is no longer completely off anymore in that position. I have replaced the batteries. Any guess what needs to be fixed?

Got a new toy to play around with - a 386/486 mainboard from Jetway, which should support a 386 CPU together with VLB graphics cards. 🚀

But first, there's some repairing to do, as one of those dreaded Varta bombs wreaked havoc on the PCB. Already removed some components. Also some traces have been eaten away, those need to be bridged.

Park Tool has a huge catalog of videos on YouTube detailing how to perform bike repair. The videos are fantastic and I recommend checking them out to anyone interested.

Got a dripping tap from an under-sink water filtration unit.

Didn't have time to repair it.

But can try now and re-use if successful.

If you know sources, or even the names, of replacement parts then please share.

tap with press-fitted handle removed by wedging.
Cartridge removed from tap body.
Cartridge disassembled showing annular washer, round ceramic (?) plate with two holes through it, and shaft with ceramic (?) plate transected by a groove on end of shaft.
