It would be the bleakest of ironies if the Scottish Greens helped get TERF-tastic into power as leader, don't you think?

There are whole philosophies around making and mending. Part of it is about making your world a slightly better place.

Changing a thing now so that later you (and possibly others) can have a better experience.

A small nudge toward something better.

I bought a wildflower that is dear to me, and today it flowered.

Heart's Ease (viola tricolor) is a native here. I remember it being all over where I grew up, but have only rarley seen it in the wild since.

Am hoping that, as it is pretty good at self-seeding, my garden can be the start of a new wee colony.

We finally completed moving house. The place is going to be chaos for the foreseeable future but we've got everything here.

And the fatigue of a month of physical and mental labour has hit us. We're so tired it's not even funny. It's interesting how you can keep going and not realise how much effort you are making, until the pressure is off and the crash comes.

We're fine. Just need to take it a little slow for a bit.

To others , we salute you siblings in fatigue.

It's time to reread The Earthsea Cycle I think.

Every time I read this book from now until the end of time I will remember one of the coolest things that happened to me. I don't remember how to conversation started, but I replied to a thread on twitter about books. I said I was reading Tehanu for the first time. And the actor who plays Paul Stamets (Star Trek) replied to me! We had a convo about how great the series was.

Huge fangirl moment.

fluffgar,

@MsHearthWitch Loved seeing him on one of those Star Trek after show discussions (can't remember the name) because it was clear he was a massive fan himself.

Hope he gets to do more Star Trek stuff. There's always room for another alien ambassador, or something. Jeffrey Combs style.

@hpkomic Star Trek does have a long and proud history of men not being afraid to slut (in the positive sense) it up.

I'm sure thete are plenty more examples than I have here.

I wonder at what point politicians go from, "I want to help my community, do good and leave positive improvements for little reward except a warm glow" to, "Ker-ching!"? The sad thing is it's not just politics. I've seen it at council level and even union level. Power corrupts. Absolutely.

fluffgar,
@fluffgar@mastodon.online avatar

@JackTheCat I wonder if it's mostly a symptom of a whole society problem. As long as people feel there is the possibility hanging over them of not having enough to get by perhaps they will keep trying to fill that potential deficit (which being only a potential has no measurement, meaning there's no figure to aim for to call "enough"). Excess greed might be a treatable psychological condition, if we can push toward actual social security for folk.

Here's today's press release for JAXA's SLIM lunar landing!

TL;DR:

Pinpoint site identification was crazily successful.

We were lowering into position, detecting boulders like a champ.

THEN ONE OF THE ENGINES DROPPED OFF.

(I kid you not)

(we don't know why yet)

(maybe space pirates)

But we still soft-landed on 1 engine.

(TAKE THAT SPACE PIRATES!)

but on our head.

Strangely, might not be a big deal once the Sun moves round to the other side of the spacecraft.

@kixes If you do decide to settle here and become a Singaporean Scot, you will be most welcome.

Your expertise in activism, and perspective, would also be great in our desire for Scottish independence. Though that is entirely optional.

Regardless as we like to say to welcome potential New Scots, kettle's oan!

Today was a hard day. But someone who interviewed me yesterday sent me a news article about a satellite that is mostly made of wood and somehow that gave me a ridiculous amount of hope (probably WAY too much hope...)

fluffgar,
@fluffgar@mastodon.online avatar

@sundogplanets Maybe it's a little fanciful of me, and I'm not even sure wood could actually hold an atmosphere, but now I'm imagining starships of the future creaking like tallships of the past. Kind of comforting sounds for the crew to boot.

@NationCymru This is a particular peeve of mine. Treating two adult human beings as a unit (and giving them each less than they individually would receive in the process). The same isn't done if you are living in the same home as housemates.

You are still a person in your own right, with all the accompanying needs, whether you live with a partner or just a friend.

I’d booked a Glasgow city centre hotel in July but my car was banned from the new LEZ, despite being a low emission diesel. So I parked in Laurieston, Southside not in LEZ & used footbridge over the Clyde to the city centre. At 143 Oxford St I spotted this potential Art Deco masterpiece. 1937 6-storey 4-bay Art Deco former drapery warehouse. Unfortunately it’s a building at risk, in poor and deteriorating condition.
