I was rummaging through old photos and found this testimony of how I started (and then got hooked on) . Moths had eaten holes in my favourite jumper. I was furious and swore revenge with a needle. Since I couldn't embroider properly or be accurate, I "needle-painted" yarn moths. Today, everyone thinks the jumper is an expensive designer piece. 🤭

O repaired the holes and stitched intuitively on other places, too, to make the jumper more joyful. Here in pink.
Sometimes I embroidered rough curves between the holes like the flight trajectories of moths in a comic. Here in bright yellow.

One done, three (out maybe four?) to go.

That's a top down (more or less) raglan construction, about 10 cm below the separation of body and arms.

According to the order confirmation I should have 5 cones of the yarn, though I can't find one of them at the moment. But with 500 m / 100 g I should be fine, even if that cone really doesn't reappear again.

On to the next cone.

Call me crazy.

This is the beginning of a long cardigan (about mid thigh), needle size 2.75 mm, gauge 26 sts/10 cm, yarn is 500 m / 100g pure linen.

So all the fun things in one neat package.

And I'm loving it so far.

🧵 1/ My new project: This linen-yarn T-shirt is a memento of my dog, who once got stuck at the bottom with his claw and tore a hole. It's darned in the shape of a yellow beetle. To make the whole thing more harmonious, I'm going to do a few small appliqués elsewhere today. @visiblemending

finished, ends woven in.

Off to washing and blocking (which is laying it out to dry and pulling it into shape).

I tried it on and I'm pleased with the overall look. The bottom hem is rolling up slightly, but I'm confident the washing will take care of it.

The sleeve hems are rolling to the inside. I wasn't sure at first about it, but after tying it on I like it that way.

Yarn is Holst Garn Coast in the Marlin colorway.

#WIPWednesday

My #knitting project of the day. Or of these days.

But I'm getting close to finishing it. It's a top down worked short sleeve top and I'm adding a border similar to the one around the neckline / on the sleeves at the bottom of the shirt, 5 or 6 repeats of the lace row.

And one of them is already done.

Next decisions: how to finish the neckline and whether I need a finish around sleeve ends.

Just watched this documentary about in - interesting and it covers a lot of aspects about knitting and wool industry.

But I nearly fell over, when they finally said, how much (or little) a really prolific hand knitter earns. It's the same story every time.

Or maybe invisible mending?

About halfway down in the post there's a picture showing a diagonal darn. Someone in the comments says, it's done that way to get a stretchy result.

It makes sense in a way, but I've never before seen this. Has anyone tried it? Results? Ideas?

Most weaving darns I do are on the underside of socks and stretchiness isn't that much of a concern.

I have started the epic shawl project!

Yarn is a hand-dyed BFL/silk from the UK.

Pattern is a modified Rubina Lace Shawl by Anna Victoria

3700 MIYUKI rocaille beads have been acquired (cleaned out the shop, lol). I estimate needing another 1300 to finish the project.

This morning, I added a few rows to the jumper I finished last week as I've worn it a couple of times and found it was a tad shorter than I'd intended but now it's spot on!

Omg I did it!!!

I finished just before 3am this morning and I'm so proud!

There are a lot of issues - the shoulders are on the wrong way and one is in the wrong place, it's miles too big width wise, it's a touch short. But I made it and it's wearable and cute and I love it!

OK, I have a thought on the oversized issue and may try running a ribbon through the bottom and maybe top ribbing so I can drawstring it a bit so only the middle is oversized which I don't think will bother me the same.

Time for an update on the socks I'm knitting! The first one is almost ready to start the ribbing, about 15 more rounds to go. I did include some calf increases 😉

I haven't mended socks in 30 (?) years or so.

One reason was, that usually when holes started to appear it usually was the complete sole that started to disintegrate and after 10 or so years the yarn started to get brittle. The other one was, that I really hated doing it the way my grandma taught me.

Then a few years ago holes started to appear much earlier and mostly at the ball of the foot. Often after only two years.

I finally dropped by @laineysluck tonight and while I didn’t get the chance to meet sweet Lainey, I had a ton of fun digging through the bins! I came out with a top and a nightgown. Woot!

For some reason, I’d been under the impression it was in Hintonburg (why?? 🤷‍♀️) but it’s actually on Bank Street, right by the 417, so easily accessible on foot, by transit and by car.

Give it a try!

I’m pretty far into the leg of the first sock of the pair, so I divided all yarn to make sure I have an equal amount reserved for the second one😃

Finally sorting my laundry, like fully, and putting it all away for the first time in... A While.

I struggled with not having a proper dresser for too long, and finally bit the bullet.

I seem to be missing some lounge shirts... or maybe I just don't have as many as I had thought?

Might need to dig thru the fabric stash for some bamboo knit (I'm sure I've got some somewhere) and whip up a few crop tees.

I... might frog my shrug and start over. I made a few mistakes with it near the beginning, and have screwed up a bit this last row.

The yarn is spendy enough, I think it's worth it. I'm worth a garment that doesn't have a bunch of mistakes.
