I want to learn #ASL this year. Specifically, I want to focus on the kind of developmentally appropriate language used with children and adolescents with #autism. I’ve been looking for local classes and, as expected, come up with basically nothing.
Does anyone have a resource (instructor, class, book, channel, anything) that they used to learn #SignLanguage?
Kela tiedottaa ettei kuurosokeille voi enää välittää taktiilitulkkia viittomakielisten uutisten tulkkaamiseen, koska TV-tulkkaus ei kuulu tulkkauspalvelun piiriin. Tästä syystä viittomakieliset kuurosokeat eivät saa tietoa (taktiili)viittomakielellä podcastin, TV- ja radio-ohjelmien tai elokuvien sisällöstä.
Mä oon kaksikielinen. Viiton suomalaista viittomakieltä ja puhun suomea.
Lapsuuteni oli aika erikoinen kielten osalta. Kotona emme juurikaan viittoneet lainkaan perheen kesken ja kun olin arkipäivinä toisessa kaupungissa peruskoulussa, niin siellä viitoin pelkästään ja enkä puhunut lähes ollenkaan. Tämä aiheutti osaltaan jonkinlaisen persoonan kahtiajakautumisen. Kotona olin eri ihminen kuin koulussa/asuntolassa kieli-identiteetin vuoksi.
Vaikka kotona emme viittoneet, kävi meillä kuitenkin viittomakielen opettaja opettamassa minulle suomalaista viittomakieltä, kun olin hirmu pieni. Minulla oli myös samaan aikaan kuulokojeet käytössä ja yritin siinä sitten opetella puhumaankin.

Watching Godzilla vs. Kong one last time before it leaves Netflix on December 31. Not that I don't have it in other formats 😂 but why not. I dig Godzilla stuff across the board. I guess some people hate on the USA ones, but Kong is always my main draw in these. And this one has some GREAT Kong stuff in it.

I love how they presented the (1) reaction against deaf people; and (2) a parent's concern for their beloved child.
It was a very good opening for episode 9.
Another thing. They paid attention to the difference between "hard of hearing" and "deaf"; and they did not use the word "mute".
It's close to me because I have a heart for them since I was a little kid. I even studied the #FilipinoSignLanguage or #FSL in 1995/1996, and they told us this:
"We are not mute. We can speak because we have our own language, just like every human being use languages."

The Second one is to revamp #SignIt, the click-to-translate web extension we use for #SignLanguage. This extension is cute, awesome, and can assist us all to learn sign languages ! But is in a deadly impasse for two reasons :
it's Firefox only, with only <5% market share nowadays
#webextension.s are phasing out the version of code we use.
A whole revamp is needed !
🔥IMPORTANT: We are looking for a 2nd mentor, with solid git/github (and ideally webextension) know how.

Question for those who know #asl or other forms of #signlanguage, and especially those who are also familiar with #linquistics and #phonetics... presumably there are dialects in sign languages, but are there accents? Shibboleths, localized mannerisms, subtle differences in how far or vigorous motions are made, or how they're combined with other attributes of body language?
