In my attempt to wean myself of cloud music services, I've been delving through the game OST list I have, and a relatively recent addition really hit it out of the park.
A fun mix of cyberpunk Ghost in the Shell influences with a dubstep beats, on top of definite NIN and Mick Gordon Quake and DOOM FPS roots:
REVEL - Sprawl OST
It's a bit outside of my usual tastes, but it is very fun and I think it matches the game to a T.
First the thylacine, then the koala, then the kookaburra...
"The tree hollows kookaburras need to breed can take a hundred years to develop. Every forest patch felled means hollows are lost. Over the past 200 years, nearly 50% of our forest cover has been felled. Urban development all along Australia’s east coast has continued."
The “guuguubarra” laughed for 16.3 million years. "That once-ubiquitous call will be heard no more."
Once again a critically important vote is upon city council and once again the Hub is stepping up to let you know WHY the April 22 #RezoningVote is important for #ClimateAction in Calgary and how YOU can help YOUR CITY do the right thing. #yyccc#yyc#HousingCrisis
It's not just all those cars travelling increasingly greater distances twice a day to get everybody to work that makes #Sprawl a problem, it's also the damage we keep doing to what few #wetlands remain. These are "nature's sponges." We more of NEED more of them, not less #yyc#yyccc#HousingCrisis#Climate
"As transportation networks expand and urban areas grow, noise from sources such as vehicle engines is spreading into remote places. Human-caused noise has consequences for wildlife, entire #ecosystems and people. It reduces the ability to hear natural sounds, which can mean the difference between life and death for many animals, and degrade the calming effect that we feel when we spend time in wild places."
I'm planning on submitting a summary of these studies as part of my arguments against the #GorhamConnector. I grew up near a 4-lane highway, and the vibrations and noise pollution were constant -- I hadn't realized how bad it was until I went back home a few years ago and camped in my old backyard -- and felt every speeding tractor trailer truck going by.
Evidence of the impact of noise pollution on biodiversity: a systematic map
By Romain Sordello, Ophélie Ratel, Frédérique Flamerie De Lachapelle, Clément Leger, Alexis Dambry & Sylvie Vanpeene
"Ecological research now deals increasingly with the effects of #NoisePollution on #biodiversity. Indeed, many studies have shown the impacts of #AnthropogenicNoise and concluded that it is potentially a threat to the persistence of many species. The present work is a systematic map of the evidence of the impacts of all anthropogenic noises (industrial, urban, transportation, etc.) on biodiversity. This report describes the mapping process and the evidence base with summary figures and tables presenting the characteristics of the selected articles."
@Hey_Beth I’d like to see a #NewCity or #Arcology as an alternative to typical #Sprawl which often results in open spaces and prime ag lands near existing cities being destroyed. However, the first draft of this proposal didn’t look green enough and it would be better to put it on the #WestSide of the #SanJoaquinValley, where it could replace thousands of acres of almonds, use other land too alkaline to farm, and include new neighborhoods with decent housing and water for #farmworker families.
Suburban Sprawl costs 38% more public money upfront & 10% more ongoing public cost than compact infill growth, with only 1/10th the created tax revenue, according to the report discussed in this citylab article.
