anybody know of some novels or series with themes including the good side of humanity? I really like for that, where the human heart is challenged yet prevails.

Not necessarily looking for Sci-Fi but not excluding it either. Maybe something historical or steampunky would be cool. 😅

@picklejr @books @books @bookstodon I really like for that. I think they went really far but beware that even if it starts as a comedy, it gets really serious and deep towards the end

Finally caught up with Strange New Worlds s02e07 (yes, I'm a bit behind). I can't deny I enjoyed watching this, it was funny, and occasionally wise. Kind of like The Orville. In fact, almost exactly like the Orville, and therein lies the problem. It was parody, and worse, it was fan-fic presented in the real bottle.

squigley, to scifi

I can't believe I slept on as long as I did. I guess I was put off by the fact that MacFarlane is the guy. A Star Trek parody rooted in that style of humor did not appeal.

Imagine my surprise to learn that it's not a Star Trek parody. And it's not Family Guy-esque. At all.

It's just... well, it's not Start Trek. But it's like getting to watch a Star Trek unburdened by canon. MacFarlane has crafted a very fine love letter to Roddenberry here.

Ranking TV shows! I don't usually do lists, but here's mine! 😎

There are lots of great things that didn't make this list, plus the order is fluid:

Plus an honorable mention, because it's a movie not TV. 😉

I hear great things about how well done the progressivism of is and that it’s a great show besides. I’d like to give it a chance, but I have some problems with .

, his most well known property, is riddled with racism misogyny, and the like that, for me, crosses the line. I personally cancelled him a long time ago.

Help me though- has he gone on an “apology tour” (i.e. expressed regret)? Is modern Family Guy better? How can I forgive his past transgressions?

A controversial ranking of select series. Remember, this is just my opinion. I am not an authority figure. I understand there will be wild disagreement.

Best series, ranked:
1.) (reboot/revisioning)
2.)
3.) (all series combined)
4.)
5.)
6.)
7.) (all movies and series combined; more opera than scifi)

That is just off the top of my head, without giving it much thought.

I'm going to follow @AndorianSoup's lead.

Here is my all-time ranking of TV shows:

  1. (franchise)
  2. (reboot)
  3. (franchise)
  4. (miniseries)
  5. (1st 2 seasons)

Just finished watching The Orville New Horizons and... wow - how awesome was THAT! This season was great, and much more serious than previous ones with a lot of good character development and some really good stories too!

I always said that The Orville did Star Trek better than Star Trek does (even when it was more comedic at the start) and that was even more true in this season - the Moclan and Kaylon story arcs were really meaty and were really well done! And they even tied up some of the loose ends leftover from previous seasons too (though I do wonder what the deal was with the Chak'Tal...).

The last episode was more like an epilogue but even if they don't do another season (it doesn't seem likely at this point) I think it had a really good run and did what it set out to do. I would love to see more of this setting, in some form (books? comics? cartoons?) but I'd also be OK if this is all we're going to get. "Future Unknown", indeed!

if you're still on the fence about this and you like sci-fi, then I would definitely recommend that you start watching it - it's very good stuff!

Could recent moves involving Disney CEO Bob Iger, Hulu, and Seth MacFarlane lead us one step closer to a final decision on ? https://bleedingcool.com/tv/the-orville-recent-disney-hulu-seth-macfarlane-moves-a-good-sign/
