"With rare bipartisan momentum, the [US] House pushed ahead Friday on a foreign aid package of $95 billion for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and humanitarian support.. Friday’s vote produced a seldom-seen outcome in the typically hyper-partisan House, with Democrats helping Republican Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan advance overwhelmingly 316-94. Final House approval could come this weekend, when the package would be sent to the Senate." https://apnews.com/article/house-ukraine-speaker-johnson-mtg-68a810a998381dfd9f4c3c4e452b9f51

It's been over a month since Rep McGovern started his discharge petition to bypass Mike Johnson in the US Congress and get the support package for Ukraine rolling again. In the meantime, the House has mostly just vacationed, while russia bombards Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure. The petiton is up to 195 of the 218 names needed for majority.
It's not just Johnson. Most of the representatives don't care.
The discharge petition to force a vote on the joint Ukraine-Israel-Taiwan aid bill has opened in the US House today.
Once 218 signatures have been gathered, there are some built in review periods, but the vote could be only 9 days away once the needed signatures are collected. Hopefully nobody wastes any time putting down their approval on the vote.
One reason it took this long for the discharge petition to reach the floor is because it can only be filed after 30 days of a bill being declined for a floor vote.
The Senate bill was sent over to the House about 30 days ago. I think it was exactly 30 days, but it's close to the minimum.
Once the bill gets passed in a vote, there will be no additional legislative delays in implementing the measures since the Senate has already approved it.
“Wake the fuck up you little shits,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) reportedly screamed at the group of teenagers. “Get the fuck out of here. You are defiling the space.” The representative allegedly called the House pages “jackasses” and “lazy shits.”
The #GOP has said it won’t provide further aid for #Ukraine unless it’s in exchange for a set of policies aimed at harming immigrants and asylum-seekers.
They euphemistically call it “border security,” but it’s more #xenophobia, white nationalism, and anti-immigrant demagoguery. Any reasonable idea at #immigration reform is buried in hate.
So what are they pushing for, and what’s the state of “debate”? A chronological thread of highlights from AP stories:
🧵
"The House #Ethics committee in a scathing report Thursday said it has amassed 'overwhelming evidence' of lawbreaking by Rep. #GeorgeSantos of #NewYork that has been sent to the #DOJ, concluding flatly that the #Republican 'cannot be trusted' after a monthslong investigation into his conduct.
"Democratic U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer who has cultivated an identity as a bipartisan consensus builder over three terms in Congress, announced on Monday that she will run for Virginia governor in 2025 instead of seeking reelection next year.
"The House voted overwhelmingly Tuesday [for continuing resolutions] to prevent a government #shutdown after new Republican Speaker Mike Johnson was forced to reach across the aisle to Democrats when hard-right conservatives revolted against his plan.
