People need to stop worrying about what #Hasbro#WotC is doing to #DnD. #RPG, at its core, is a very simple thing: rules, dice, paper, pencils, people, time and space, and a lot of snacks and beverages.
The genre transcends its progenitor. Your rules need to govern how to describe a character, how to describe the environment, how to resolve conflicts, and how to handle rewards/progression/improvement. All of it can be and in fact is made up.
What #Hasbro#WotC will decidedly NOT do is "kill" #DnD, not in any sense of the word. They will, eventually sell off the rights to the game, when it stops being profitable, because of their own stupidity.
But, "D&D", in the cultural sense, is a 50 year old industry-defining pasttime. It can't be "killed", even by malicious actors. Its spirit lives on eternally in too many of us for that to happen.
I'm not going to harangue you to "try other games" because I'm mad at #Hasbro#WotC, or because I think "other games" are better than #DnD#DnD5E (most of them are not), except to say that it can be beneficial for your understanding and enjoyment of the hobby to expose yourself to different ideas about how the key, core features of #TTRPG#gaming work in the minds of other people, and to see and know that the things you need to play are really very simple and inexpensive.

My mind returns to John Scott Tynes' legendary series of pieces about his experiences working at pre-Hasbro WotC and how it all went to corporate shit.

Ihr habt oft danach gefragt und lange war unklar was Sache ist: Wo bleibt “Dragonlance: Im Schatten der Drachenkönigin”? Warum noch kein Artikel dazu auf D3? Warum sind die Monsterlisten nicht gepflegt? Und was kostet es jetzt wirklich?
Das Buch ist bereits Anfang November erschienen und einige von euch haben es zum Release bekommen. Andere schauen in die Röhre, unter anderem ich 🙂
Seit Ende 2022 erhalte ich Neuerscheinungen deutschsprachiger Bücher von Wizards of the Coast als kostenlose Rezensionsexemplare. In der Regel kommen die Bücher einige Tage vor dem offiziellen Release, das gibt Gelegenheit sich auf die Veröffentlichung vorzubereiten – darum schaffe ich es fast immer die Monsterlisten etc. bereits am Veröffentlichungstag zur Verfügung zu stellen. Für Dragonlance habe ich allerdings bis heute noch keins erhalten und auch im regulären Handel bietet sich bis jetzt ein seltsames Bild. Amazon listet es zum Beispiel bis jetzt als “Multimedia-CD” zum Preis von 49,99 EUR:

Fantasywelt, haben es nicht vorrätig und das bereits seit kurz nach dem Release. Wieder andere listen es zum Preis von 52,99 EUR. Außerdem ist das Buch auf der offiziellen, deutschsprachigen D&D-Website gar nicht zu finden. Was ist da los?
Ich habe in den letzten Tagen mehrere Händler angeschrieben und um Infos zum Stand gebeten. Ich habe durchweg sehr freundliches Feedback erhalten (Danke! <3), allerdings mit sehr unterschiedlichen Aussagen. Zum Release im November sind alle beliefert worden, so dass Vorbestellungen bedient werden konnten. Nachbestellungen ließen aber in der Hälfte der Fälle auf sich warten. Manche sind erst in der letzten Woche beliefert worden, andere noch gar nicht. Im Großen und Ganzen haben die meisten Läden, die das Buch haben wollen, es aktuell auf Lager.
Auch bei Wizards habe ich mich erkundigt und mir wurde bestätigt, dass es eine ganze Reihe von Komplikationen in internen und externen Prozessen gegeben hat. Unter anderem klappt der Prozess mit Amazon nicht reibungslos und die Anlieferung von Rezensionsexemplaren an die Pressestellen geht auf Wizards Kappe. Lieferprobleme in Richtung der Großhändler sind bei Wizards allerdings nicht direkt (man hat aber auf Social Media mitbekommen, dass es irgendwo hakt) bekannt – wenn du selbst mit Spielen handelst und Probleme hattest, das Buch zu bekommen, liegt’s demnach irgendwo in der Kette zwischen Großhandel und dir. Wizards würde dem gerne nachgehen, den Kontakt stelle ich gerne her.
Die Probleme mit der Website werden angepackt. Es gibt auch bereits eine Seite zum Buch unter dnd.wizards.com/de/products/dragonlance. Sie ist nur noch nirgends verlinkt und hat noch einige Fehler (Bild und Releasedatum stimmen dort nicht).
Was den Preis angeht: Das Buch kostet 49,99 EUR. Dank Buchpreisbindung ist dieser Preis auch festgeschrieben und gilt überall. Allerdings gab es wohl im November eine Fehlinformation über den Preis, deren Ursprung leider etwas nebulös geblieben ist, der aber die vielen Listings zu 52,99 EUR erklärt. Wenn dein Laden noch nicht aktualisiert hat, dann bitte einfach freundlich darum mal auf die Rückseite des Buches zu gucken. Was dort aufgedruckt ist gilt.
Die gute Nachricht ist: Gerüchte über den Tod der D&D-Internationalisierung sind übertrieben. Wizards arbeitet an den Problemen, das deutsche Team ist soweit ich weiß bislang noch komplett 🤞, mein Rezensionsexemplar ist unterwegs und – das Beste zum Schluss: Im Januar kommen die Neuankündigungen für 2024!
