I reinstated my regular donation to @matrix so they can use it for whatever brings open and transparent communication software into every single area – including the police and military.
IMHO, there is a hell of a lot to change about police systems, and they make a lot of serious mistakes. The only difference #Element's presence at their conference makes is that while making serious mistakes, they at least don't hand my data to Big Tech.
"Criminals have used telephones and mobile phones since they were invented. Drug smugglers use airplanes and boats, radios and satellite phones. Society survives all of this because the good uses of infrastructure far outweigh the bad uses, even though the good uses are – by and large – small and pedestrian and the bad uses are rare and spectacular."
@Nour@tek_dmn#Cloudflare sees everything that happens on the matrix·org server, so there’s that. Speaking of CF, #Element has also put their website under control of the web’s police (Cloudflare indeed). Which makes them despicable enough even before the OP’s revelation.
Free Software Community of India (#FSCI) statement on banning of apps like @element and @briar
"Federated, peer-to-peer, encrypted, Free Software apps/software like #Element and #Briar, should be promoted. They are key to our national security as they provide means to enable sovereign, private and secure communication to citizens of India. Element has been embraced by Governments of France, Germany and Sweden which should be an example for #India."
@hywan I don't know why they're banning this client. #Matrix is not a vendor-lock-in service, banning #Element would not stop users accessing it. This is different from WhatsApp or others.
India blocks 14 apps including #element, @briar, threema, imo etc
"While tracking down one of the communication, agencies found that the mobile application does not have representatives in India and it is difficult to track down activities happening on the app".
This is a dangerous precedent and opens the door to ban any app/service not having a presence in India. We should challenge this order in the Supreme Court.
What is the state of notifications on #matrix#element (android) without #google push service? I mean by that havin own matrix server and no google play service on the phone (only frdoid, no microg)
How we ran a 300+ attendee conference online using an open source stack including tech like #Jitsi, #PeerTube, and #Matrix / #Element - and attendees had a great experience!
Ihr wollt in eurer Firma oder sonstigem Team Matrix/Element etablieren oder einfach hands-on etwas über die Technik lernen? Vielleicht #Element um eigene Widgets ergänzen? Hier geht's lang:
