Except for layer 1 stuff, we're pretty much done with shopping and ordering for the new #FOSDEM local network and server setup. Almost everything under under direct control has been scheduled for upgrades or replacement.
We're using largely refurbished hardware because it's easier on the environment and because we don't need that much local oomph compared to e.g. #37c3.
I’ve been in IT infrastructure, servers, automation etc. for 2 decades now and I have seen technologies come and go, but the only thing that really hasn't changed is: I am the only woman in almost every room at a conference.
What can we do to have a more diverse audience and more female/trans/non-white speakers? #fosdem is so diverse and colorful, but #cfgmgmtcamp is still mostly white male.

Starting my #fosdem thread here. I've already managed to get one of the gold dust "M" size hoodies, one of the last, as well as see some stuff about open transit.

Seeing #FOSDEM photos streaming across my Mastodon feed does not spark joy in me this year. Not that I have FOMO (you can't convince me to cross the oceans for "spend 2 days unsuccessfully looking for each other in jampacked hallways & rooms while jetlagged"), but rather because nobody is wearing masks in the pictures I've seen so far, and I worry about this laissez-faire 12,000-attendees indoors event potentially leading to more of my fellow FLOSS community members riddled with long CoViD.
Quick #fosdem show of hands. Who's all going this year? Also, should we pick a general meeting place and time to meet up? Last year I was so tired by the end of the second day I couldn't meet everyone I wanted to and would really like to try this year.
During @fosdem#FOSDEM kickoff on 2023-08-26 we built up a tent against the rain. The tent was old and the alumin[i]um poles and steel springs / locking nubs partially rusted away.
I have been walking around with metal shavings in both hands and almost all fingers ever since. It's driving me insane. How can I get them out? They are too small to see, glue, magnets, and pulling cream didn't work.
