After a chilly night there was only one moth in the trap but it was a beaut - an Earlt Thorn.

Ironclad beetles are weird. This is Phloeodes diabolicus.

I took a decent photo of a Japanese Beetle (Popillia japonica) yesterday.

On a recent walk in the Waitākere ranges my friend and I found a female New Zealand giraffe weevil (Lasiorhynchus barbicornis)! The males of this species are even larger in size. We didn't have a banana available for scale 🤣 so a picture of it on my friends hand will have to do.

A long brown weevil on a person's hand. The weevil is approximately two joints long on the person's finger. I would estimate this to be roughly 5 centimetres.

Striped Ladybird which is endemic to Tasmania and south east Australia sitting on a bindweed flower which isn't native and considered a weed.

Hopefully the local is getting something from the invasive.
