A great example of data journalism as an accountability tool.

When powerful organizations or people won't reveal important information, go out and gather it yourself. Then do the math and connect the dots.

In this case, that was a painstaking process which took months.

But it resulted in all sorts of revelations in the public interest:

Doug Ford is dumbing down Ontario

There’s fierce competition in the unofficial race for Canada’s most dangerous premier, with Alberta’s Smith deliberately destabilizing her province’s health-care system and Sask’s Scott Moe literally breaking the law so he can thumb his considerable nose at the carbon tax. But with the most recent demonstration of his own unique brand of politics, Ontario’s Doug Ford just snuck back into the lead.

So the party of lower taxes...and less red tape not to mention fewer gatekeepers ----exactly how??

Via Colin D Mello:
"Tempers flared at Queen's Park today after Premier Doug Ford was pressed on the costs of the Premier's Office.

Global News revealed the number of sunsline list employees in PO has grown to 48 (from 20 in 2019_ now costing nearly $7million (up from 3)"

REMINDER: The carbon tax exists for Ontarians because cancelled the existing cap and trade program.

Premier Ford, as usual, is all over social media childishly blaming others for this colossal mistake..

"Ontario is waking up to the world’s worst April Fools’ joke. The Liberal carbon tax went up a whopping 23 per cent today [3 CENTS, Doug] — and guess who hasn’t said a peep? The Queen of the Carbon Tax herself, Bonnie Crombie." - Doug Ford

@Jgmeadows "IQ of a turnip" 🤦

This comment from @KimberlyN says it all...

"A journalist was speaking to people at one of Pierre 's [Axe theTax] rallies.
👉 Most of his supporters didn’t even know the slogan referred to climate policy.
One person thought he was promising to abolish income taxes (!!!), others thought he was going to end inflation/make food cheaper/make houses more affordable."

If Canadians elect a Conservative government, we will have BOTH the federal govt and most provinces dancing around any serious climate policy.

The Conservative's "AxeTheTax" misinformation media blitz has convinced many people that gasoline prices are going up 23% today. 🤦‍♂️

Violent Crackdown at Land Day March
by Nur Dogan and David Gray-Donald

Police ride horses through crowd, injure several and arrest six on Saturday at rally much like the ones each weekend since October. Officers pinned some people to the ground to make arrests, including a bystander unaffiliated with the march.

Here's another no skills, no experience appointee holding a cabinet position in the Ontario government.
Last week, Michael Ford's uncle, the Premier of Ontario, generously hired TWO parliamentary assistants to take the flack while his nephew moves to demolish the Ontario Science Centre.
Premier Ford brazenly appointed his high-school-grad nephew as Minister of Citizenship & Multiculturalism in the most populous, most diverse region of Canada.

Doug Ford's nephew key in decision of what to demolish at Ontario Science Centre. Doug Ford and Michael Ford shaking hands

I’m sure the only plan Ford and his owners have for climate change is to move to mansions in gated communities with high security to insulate themselves from climate change-related unrest.

I'm not a fan of the "Public sector salary disclosure" (aka Sunshine List), but it does turn up some disturbing details:

  • Const. Douglas Holmes, ordered fired by tribunal for violating public trust (found guilty of assault by the SIU) and hasn't worked since November 2019: earned $112,605 last year

  • Const. Conal Quinn, jailed for 4 years for sexual assault: earned $117,679 last year

It seems to me that the Canadian government would be far less likely to get into jurisdictional overreach if the Provincial governments were actually to do their fucking jobs and stop blaming the feds for everything that is wrong in their own provinces.

The rental crisis is only partially a federal problem (looking at you, CMHC), but the provinces have been entirely absent in presenting solutions. Want to stop federal intervention? Do something about it yourself!!!!

Here is Stephen Lecce politicizing education ...

"We progressive Conservatives REDUCED the fuel tax by 10 cents/litre.
The Liberals will INCREASE the carbon tax by 23%. As if it isn't expensive enough to live."
👉 It appears that the Ontario Minister of Education doesn’t know how to convert percentages to cents-a-litre.
Narrator: It’s 3 cents a litre.

It also appears that clean air, both inside & outside the classroom, is not 's agenda.

The truth is, Conservatives hate the carbon tax because it is progressive and returns the revenue back to Canadians directly, not corporations. They dislike the fact that carbon taxes are not an upward wealth redistribution scheme, or a form of trickle down.

"Pierre 's 'axe the tax' campaign is the biggest scam in Canadian political history.
Conservatives are lying to you. It's just that simple.
Cutting the tax will not make life easier for Canadians. The rebates will.
Doing nothing about climate change is not an option!"
