Lord. I know #AI garbage has poisoned the web but I hadnt fully appreciated the scale until I, a newbie, tried to find a simple beginner tutorial for writing a chat bot for some things I’d like to do with the #owncast server.
Nothing but ChatGPT gibberish. Eventually gave up.
Imagine being a hosting service and coming to the Fedi to promote your services by hosting an #owncast and it tops out at 4 users and never stops buffering. 🤣
Oh and ALSO your chat is a DISCORD chat instead of the default Owncast chat. 🤣
@deadtom I'll admit, I almost used this company about a year ago but I found their customer service lacking and their documentation a bit confusing. They have no real desire to educate their users on best practices for using their service.
Then I hit them up again just last month to see if maybe the last time was a fluke, and nope. Same attitude.
Then seeing them today try to run an Owncast livestream but failing miserably was just a reminder that I was right not to choose them.
@Mrfunkedude I would be like, "So tell me if I got this right: you posted your go-live announcement in English, assuming the intent was to reach more English-speaking viewers, but when they join and wonder why you're talking in German, your response is to lecture them about their expectations that were set by you, the streamer? Is this a correct assessment?"
I mean, I'd probably get banned but it's a fair question.
One thing I do miss from deleting my #Twitch account is the #Music section. There are some really talented people there streaming music. Are there any people out there streaming music via #Owncast?
I do not understand the Owncast iOS app. It shows the live streams in the Owncast directory, and once you click on it, the live stream will play at the top, and you will see some channel info below, but there’s no access to the chat unless you actually go to that website.
Also, the notifications have not been working for me. So at this point, I’m wondering what the point of the app is? What does it do that going to the website on my phones browser doesn’t do? #Owncast
