Been aiming towards a technical accomplishment for months that isn't on any statement-of-work. Getting mostly polite nods and agreements from coworkers.
Yesterday I got it working. Nodders were suddenly excited. "Hey, this is giving me ideas!"
No kidding.
Even in an R&D context, too many are project-focused instead of tool-focused. It isn't about delivering a result, it's about ending up with a capability!
This is weird, heavy rain all around us, strong wind gusts, but no rain yet. Everyone either side of Necum Teuch is in rain clouds, but it hasn't crossed our harbour yet.
No sunrise today, cool and windy. If it's not going to rain for a little longer, I can mow another quarter acre.
I have to get the lawn tractor fixed, this pushing has got to stop
Read the declassified NRO history of the first radar #satellites details an interesting disagreement between the #intelligence#community and the military over the utility of radar imaging.
SAC wanted #radar#imaging for battle damage assessment (#bda) which was of little interest to the #IC.
#Storm#Poly has developed multiple rain bands. Unlike tropical cyclones, however, the strongest gusts tend to occur in the outer bands. The storm center now reaches East Frisia. #Radar #WxMastodon #Weather

Some #thunderstorm activity finally developing just along the south edge of the city. Expect it to grow quickly with the main threat being large #hail. Will likely stay south of #Winnipeg, but will watch for any potential development as an outflow boundary approaches from the NW. [#MBStorm#weather#radar]
If you're looking for easily accessed weather info that has no ads of any kind you can get weather radar across the US etc from this site hosted by the folks in the Atmospheric, Oceanographic, and Space Sciences bldg on the University of Wisconsin Madison campus (they are partly responsible for the GOES weather satellites) and it works on cell phones: https://www.aos.wisc.edu/weather/#wisconsin#weather#radar
Loved seeing this last night - bats on the radar as they head out for their evening meals. How many circles of bats emerging can you count? (Attachment is a video of weather radar of the #CentralTexas area, showing many expanding circles around areas where bats roost during the day.) #Texas#Austin#bats#radar#nature#ecology
I came across an open source weather radar project that's available on both Windows and Linux! It's still being actively developed but I wanted to share should anyone want or be able to contribute. I think this is an excellent idea for those that cannot afford programs like GRLevel Analyst or the monthly fee of WSV3.
A right-moving #supercell is chewed up by a squall line in southern #Germany, yesterday. The cell first benefited from orographically induced shear in the area of the Ostalb, then later from favorable conditions in the near storm environment of the approaching line.
A good example that supercells can develop specifically in structured terrain even in apparently rather undynamic initial situations.
