Been aiming towards a technical accomplishment for months that isn't on any statement-of-work. Getting mostly polite nods and agreements from coworkers.

Yesterday I got it working. Nodders were suddenly excited. "Hey, this is giving me ideas!"

No kidding.

Even in an R&D context, too many are project-focused instead of tool-focused. It isn't about delivering a result, it's about ending up with a capability!

This is weird, heavy rain all around us, strong wind gusts, but no rain yet. Everyone either side of Necum Teuch is in rain clouds, but it hasn't crossed our harbour yet.
No sunrise today, cool and windy. If it's not going to rain for a little longer, I can mow another quarter acre.
I have to get the lawn tractor fixed, this pushing has got to stop

Radar Animation. You can see several bands of rain, winding around an imagined center, the "eye" of the storm.

If you're looking for easily accessed weather info that has no ads of any kind you can get weather radar across the US etc from this site hosted by the folks in the Atmospheric, Oceanographic, and Space Sciences bldg on the University of Wisconsin Madison campus (they are partly responsible for the GOES weather satellites) and it works on cell phones: https://www.aos.wisc.edu/weather/

I think Elon Musk belongs to a cult or is a "They Live" style alien.

Musk on Neuralink: let's put chips inside our head to control machines with our minds.

Musk on Telsa collision detection: let's use cameras.

Everyone in the automotive industry: why not use RADAR, LIDAR et al just like the rest of us?

Musk: You fools! You're poking at the unknown with your magic rays, who knows what it will awaken!

I came across an open source weather radar project that's available on both Windows and Linux! It's still being actively developed but I wanted to share should anyone want or be able to contribute. I think this is an excellent idea for those that cannot afford programs like GRLevel Analyst or the monthly fee of WSV3.

al_meteo, to random German

A right-moving #supercell is chewed up by a squall line in southern #Germany, yesterday. The cell first benefited from orographically induced shear in the area of the Ostalb, then later from favorable conditions in the near storm environment of the approaching line.

A good example that supercells can develop specifically in structured terrain even in apparently rather undynamic initial situations.
