A 27-year old mystery was solved this week when a collector figured out how to unlock secret characters on the Mothra Tamagotchi, first released in Japan in 1997.
@404mediaco reports a Discord user named rhubarb_pie found out how to unlock the “Moll & Lora” twins as playable characters through a very specific three-week gaming process, something that was previously thought to have occurred through a “battery glitch.”
@metin After Jack Tramiel left there was no visionary left who ruled Commodore. Apple struggled after Jobs left, because there, too, no visionary was left. Successful companies exist because they are ruled by dictators with a vision. Failing companies, too. But the reverse doesn't exist I think: Successful companies without visionaries. If ideas get too diluted by too many in power, a company might exist and survive, but won't be making breakthroughs like Commodore did in the early days.
Got the iPod Classic ready for @defcon and I think it’s appropriate for Pride month as well. This pretty much fits with the theme I think #DEFCON is trying to do this year.
Found a listing for a Vintage Apple IIc Personal Computer with monitor, printer, and more. It boots up! Price is currently at $302. Auction ends on May 28th. I bet this ends up getting pretty pricey, but definitely worth keeping an eye on: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/199793185

Time to take a stab at this thing. The LM338k regulator has finally failed on this WhiteStar platform driver board. I wish there was a switching PSU replacement for it like there is for the LM323K used in WPC games.
The regulator is at the upper left corner with a huge heat sink. It runs quite hot!
@root42 From what I own, only one platform uses it and it has one of them. It produces 5v, 5A in these games and drives everything from the CPU to external devices that run on 5 volts.
@RPBook bought themself a Palm Pilot. We're both remembering how good the Graffiti input was. I've even installed a Graffiti keyboard on my phone. This Toot was typed with it. I think I may even prefer it to the tapping tiny letters type of keyboard. I do think maybe I need to get a stylus.
"It is well-known that some Boeing 747s, for example, use floppy disks to load critical software updates into their navigation and avionics computers.
In San Francisco, the Muni Metro light railway, which launched in 1980, won't start up each morning without a floppy disk that controls the railway's Automatic Train Control System."
@DBG3D Yeah, I remember losing most of my pixel graphics for one of our games, because a backup on diskette turned out to be corrupt. Luckily, the graphics had already been processed into the game. 😅
