Who in #Israel would have to die for the attack by #Iran to be considered a fair retaliation? What if it was for the treatment of Palestinians since Balfour? Or for what the US and UK did to Iran in the 1953 coup? #Gaza
"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever." #ThomasJefferson
Former President Donald Trump is now selling Bibles for $59.99, inscribed with the phrase "God Bless the USA" and accompanied by copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. But he's not the first U.S. ex-president to sell Bibles for his own purposes. After leaving office, Thomas Jefferson put together "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth” which was a private exercise undertaken to make sense of Jesus's teachings. The Miami Herald contrasts the two books, saying of Trump's Bible: “The use of flag imagery and political texts in conjunction with the bible suggests a dangerous politicization of Christianity and religion more broadly — the exact phenomenon that Jefferson feared.”
LMAO, regardless of how you side on the Israel-Hamas conflict/war/genocide, and how that may sway you to be with or against the Houthi Yemeni Rebels and whether it is ok to randomly attack "unaffiliated"/innocent commercial shipping, everyone seems to have forgotten one major thing.
The US's first international intervention was the Barbary Wars. It was why the US even has a Navy. It is why we have the US Marines.
The US will keep continuing to bust shit up until the Houthis relent. FULL STOP.
After #ThomasJefferson became president of the US in March 1801, he sent a US #Naval fleet to the Mediterranean to combat the Barbary pirates. The fleet bombarded numerous fortified cities...
...the second conflict ended the need for further tributes by the United States, granted the U.S. full shipping rights in the Mediterranean Sea, and significantly reduced... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_Wars
Sept.17 marks the anniversary of the signing of the #Constitution. #JamesMadison wrote to #ThomasJefferson in March 1787, when plans were underway for the #ConstitutionalConvention, “What may be the result of this political experiment cannot be foreseen.”
11 days before the Constitution was signed, Madison wrote Jefferson, “If the present moment be lost it is hard to say what may be our fate.”
If you paid for funeral expenses for someone who died in the US, and their death certificate mentions COVID as a cause, you may be eligible for up to US$9,000 in funeral expense assistance from the US federal government.
Lucian K. Truscott, a lineal descendant of Thomas Jefferson, writes,
"When my friend Annette Gordon Reed wrote her first book, 'Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings: An American Controversy,” the establishment of Jefferson historians came down on her hard. They tried to stamp out any possibility that Annette’s book would be taken seriously as a work of history."
"That is, until a study of Jefferson and Hemings family DNA in 1998 proved that Jefferson had fathered Sally Hemings’ children. Then they ran to embrace Annette’s book.
It took DNA for the history of the Hemings family to be accepted by historians."
