A male American toad has taken up residence in our small garden pond and has been serenading us all night. What I think is particularly interesting is that you can see the ripples coming off its body as it makes its trilling call. Taken in Madison, Wisconsin.

I took this photo of king penguins in Porvenir, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, my beautiful country. The King Penguins of Tierra del Fuego are the only colony that inhabits South America. In 2010, this charismatic seabird arrived in Tierra del Fuego to feed, breed and live. The reproductive cycle of the king penguin is the longest of the 18 penguin species, lasting between 14 and 15 months from courtship to the end of breeding, they do not build nests and lay only one egg that the father or mother incubates between their feet. If successful, they lay two eggs in a period of three years. At around five years of age, the species reaches sexual maturity.

I love soft shelled turtles. I lived on a lake where spiny soft shells lived. I would swim around with them and watch them fish.

I came across this porcupine kit/yearling on the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine. It was grazing on the plants growing among the crack in the rocks.

I found I loved using public transportation i when I lived in Washington, D.C. Since then if it is an option, I will take it over driving. This is one of Ballston Station in Virginia, just a couple stops from where it crosses the Potomac River into the District. I love the symmetry and strong vanishing point.

A view through the Indians just as the sun is just peeking over Pelican Island. If you can ever get there at the right time, I recommend it as a must do when sailing in the British Virgin Islands.
