Interesting to see you can still view profiles and their posts when a server is down. Case in point, mstdn.social.

Even if living alone, appreciate the effort friend puts when she sits down for a meal - serving each dish in a bowl/plate. For comparison, yours truly puts them all in one plate "...too much hassle and dishes to wash".

Salt, beef soup, soup of mock tomato and brinjal, fried spring onions roots, boiled eggs, ginger, chillies, boiled fish served in a table.
Boiled eggs, cucumber, avocado, fried beans, post of (I dunno), cherry served in a table.

Locally made skewers. Love it as the charring is so even. Useful for charring other items like tomatoes, brinjals/eggplants etc.

No bricks or stones lying around for the stove? Dig a diagonal hole in the ground. Nice improvisation/jugaad.

If you've ever wondered how a plantation looks like. The tree with the smallest girth will fetch roughly ₹10k or $120.

People are constantly advised not to plant them but who can control human greed, it always takes over. Nothing but the teak grows in these plantations - no birds nor rats, insects, or snakes. Depressing to be honest.

Since it's the season, decided to whip up a 'tauh' of Chakawk (Diplazium esculentum). In English, 'Tauh' would simply be 'salad'. in alt text.

Tidbit: The ferns we get in these parts are not carcinogenic as opposed to the ones consumed/found in Korea, Japan, and other other countries (e.g. Bracken fern and Fiddlehead fern). There are about 10500 species of ferns. Found it interesting when I first heard about it so felt like sharing.

Quoting a Khasi doctor I know: "These Bengalis come to Shillong and act as if they're some foreigners from another country. They come here to feel better about themselves & talk to the people as if they've reached some tribal land where everyone is still living in hut".

too will soon be infested with these - those 'wandering soul' sic types. These idiots are lucky they didn't encounter people of the KNA who operate in Chin state, Burma. Those are people you cannot reason with - it's a bullet straight in the head.

Simple traditional #fish soup.

Boil water, drop ginger, onions, tomatoes, and dried Rosella flowers (instead of lemon). Drop the fish. Serve when you feel it's ready according to taste.

A memory of 10 years ago. This was the official vehicle of my landlord - an IRS (Railways) officer.

From the Internet: "The Hindusthan Trekker was a toned-down Ambassador. During the late 70s and early 80s, it was an expensive luxury."
