@martijnbraam I had a similar surprise lately. I had a few performance monitoring tools like iostat open in tmux and a few days later I saw in htop that my processes now have extremely high PIDs. The highest was only a bit below the maximum limit and above 4000000 ^^ seems like those tools cat /proc and spawn new processes all the time
I freaking hate politics right now. There is no place for views that aren't hard-left or hard-right. There is no desire for dialog. Most people in reality are not perfect ideological stereotypes. But in spite of that, I see more and more of my online acquaintances falling into line with these sterotypes. Being part of the left leaning FOSS community, usually this means presenting as far left revolutionaries. It is resulting in the split of communities and ejection of good faith participants.
@soller@squeakypancakes depends on your definition of left/right. For me the definition is sth like "There are natural differences between people so the better/stronger people should have a better live and power over the weak" (right) and "the natural differences between people should be compensated by the society and all should have the same rights/happyness/power/..." (left). So for my definition a dictator can never be left no matter what they fight for.
@soller@squeakypancakes I think the right side identifies with my definition too and also thinks they are the good side so I wouldn't say I defined it that way. Also thats not sth I made up, its what I found after searching for a definition for a while. There is no clear definition as thats something that evolved from the french parliament in the revolution. Also left and right changed quite a bit over time and I would say this is what was true at all times. I would love to hear your definition
@soller@squeakypancakes also the political opinion can not be expressed correctly by one dimension. I often see the political spectrum with 2 dimensions: left/right and anti-/autoritarian. This makes far more sense and still is probably way too simple for most discussions
@HistoPol@pojntfx you probably heard of the OS: it is a "normal" linux distro. So there is no owner at all. There are for example @postmarketOS and @mobian but a few others too. And it is still in the development so expect it to be incomplete and rough at some edges. The best phones probably are OnePlus 6(T), PinePhone (Pro) and Librem 5 but many others work more or less and are getting better. For more follow the #LinuxMobile hashtag or check out some projects.
Welp, there goes the idea of (paid) indie games for that mobile platform. 😐 Given #Flathub works on a payment backend it would've been best for #LinuxPhone's as a whole to go that route instead of doing their own sandboxing around apk. #MobileLinux devices will never get out of the niche they're in that way even if the GUI is ever so fancy.
Couldn't find hard info regarding #mobian or #ubports about this. 😐
@linmob@Natanox but does money really stop burnouts? In paid jobs people are burned out all the time and being dependend on the money is just another factor that contributes to overworking? Of course doing both paid and unpaid work at the same is the biggest risk which is probably why so many are burning out? I know the same from other activism (organizing demos/actions) where burnouts are a topic too. But they all seem to be students or paid workers, could that be the problem?
Somehow, whenever I write Rust, I feel like it's not really for me. I always spend so much time dealing with Rust logic, and so little time on actually writing the code I want.
I can understand how it suits a lot of people to have an extremely clear visualization of the path their code takes when it runs, but I prefer to write less code, even in that means sacrificing performance.
@gregorni@fkinoshita if you did mostly gtk-rs I am not surprised, I also don't really enjoy that. With relm4 it is better but I still like PyQt much more. I think Rust just isn't yet ready for GUI. But now I am writing a distributed programm and wow are the rust web frameworks awesome :D
I'm looking for a todo application, similar to Todoist or TickTick that has a Linux app and an iOS app, syncs between them and isn't horrible.
Don't talk to me about Obsidian or notion, not great for todos. Tried Any.do, but it too is not great and has no Linux app. I can live with a web app, but I don't want to.
I am using #Debian for 10-15 years already and until now I didn't know you could just run 'apt install -y anarchism && firefox /usr/share/doc/anarchism/html/index.html'? I wish I knew that already! #ArchLinux and #Alpine / #postmarketOS need that too!
Quite funny, that #Ubuntu has it too :D #Anarchism isn't the first thing that comes to mind if I think of Cannonical ^^
Question for the wizards out there, have you ever installed a new drive and it gets detected like you'd expect but for some reason your main drive started running at maybe a quarter of the speed. You reseat the cables and then the problem completely goes away. If so how and why?
@BrodieOnLinux I am definitely no wizzard and I don't know the correct terms but on a mainboard there are things like switches to connect multiple peripherals to one CPU lane. My first guess would be that both of your storage devices shared the same "switch" and now each have their own. If thats true it could be mentioned in the manual of your mainboard.
@matrix yay thanks Nheko for expiring messages! Hopefully this will soon become part of the specs. The signal bridge I use does the same already and it is quite important to me.
Paper Plane (formerly Telegrand) is a really nice #Telegram client. It still misses a lot of features of the official client, but if you're fine with that, it gives you really great native experience on #Linux. And it works great on phones, too!
@sesivany does it support E2E encryption? Thats the only thing I miss in the official client but I only use it really rarely. Also can I use it over Tor easily like I do with the official client?
