Watched ’s new movie Old Dads last night. I love the guy’s standup and podcast but this flick was a big miss unfortunately, and I even went in with low expectations. Just felt like a mid-2000s b-tier comedy with some modern anti-wokeness/lampooning on California life sprinkled throughout. Disjointed with a couple snickers here and there. 1.5/5 stars

This is a fairly typical game for me. I had some of the right ideas, and did a okayish job at identifying lines of attack. However, I lacked any good positional sensibilities and made the game more difficult than necessary. Oh and I missed mate-in-1. Still, not too long ago I would have rushed the attack & blundered (although stockfish says I should have gone even faster!)

Genuinely curious what a version of Office Space might look like if made today.

Instead of printers, would it be shouting at Jira/trello etc.?

Instead of someone being fired but not told, would it be a bug bounty hunter who never gets payed but keep getting strung along? Or maybe a Kernel dev who keeps being asked to revise {patches} to hit arbitrary ideas from the maintainers?

I would like to say this right now. If you feel the need to go through your kid's phone, read their messages, look through their contacts, know everything they're doing... Congratulations! You're a shitty parent. You're effectively harassing your child if you do it like this. There are some things that you can do for your kid's safety, but never, under any circumstance, should you be monitoring their every move. Ever. You can try and justify that all you want, but it's wrong. There's no excuse for it. Even worse if you look through it, then confront your kid about stuff you shouldn't even be aware of. Kids have their own lives. Kids can have personal secrets. Kids want their privacy. If they want you to know something, they'll tell you. Until then? Stay out

@Kaliah I think there’s a lot more situational nuance here that could mark exceptions with this blanket opinion. Not a parent and I also agree that kids deserve a reasonable element of privacy.

I love that scene in Grosse Pointe Blank where some dude is inexplicably playing Doom II on an arcade machine (?!) in the middle of a shootout

Don’t really like deceptive pillows. Also known as decorative pillows, but if you butcher “decorative” auto-correct changes it to “deceptive” and I found it rather fitting. They do actually deceive the shit out of you. Trying to pass for a pillow but it’s top priority is to just sit there and be pretty? Get with the program, they shouldn’t be associated with anything you want to rest your head on. Give me max comfort with no lace or frills and some straight softness please.

A friend's Christian MAGA family keeps saying the situation in Israel is a sign of the Rapture. Which reminds me that the main reason most US politicians staunchly and vocally support Israel is not to court the Jewish vote (we're less than 1% of the population) but evangelical Christians, who believe that getting all the Jews to move to Israel is the key to triggering the Rapture. They'll get to go to Heaven and the Jews will be left behind. Their vote hinges on making that happen.
