USA Politics today:
•Biden gets $42B for broadband—Trump admits to stealing classified docs
•PA Gov Shapiro repairs I-95 in 12 days—FL Gov DeSantis tries to cancel citizenship
•IL Gov Pritzker signs bill to guarantee breaks & a day off—TX Gov Abbot bans water breaks

Dems aren’t perfect, no, but we are working to be more perfect—and that matters.

Paid family leave?

Universal pre-K?

GOP: No
Universal healthcare?

Ok this is neat. United We Dream has a new YouTube show featuring young immigrants competing with their family recipes. It's called "No Borders Just Flavors."

Pro immigrant rights and pro amazing food. Is there a better deal out there? 😀

20 years jail for rescuing 1000 low income migrants who were forced to put their lives at risk.

Expanded search for rescuing a few billionaires who chose to put their lives at risk.

Criminalizing poverty and excusing opulence.

Smh. We don’t have to live like this.

I remember when applying for my law license, having to disclose toll violations & parking tickets from a decade prior amounting to less than $100.

Absurd that a sitting SCOTUS justice claims a $150K vacation didn’t require disclosure or recusal.

Where is the accountability?

Juneteenth should remind us that human trafficking was legal. Slavery was legal. Jim Crow was legal. The US Govt paying reparations to white enslavers who lost their “property” but not to the formerly enslaved who lost their lives, was legal. Indeed, prison slavery is still legal today.

Do not let legality & power be your measure of morality & justice.

Barack Hussein Obama won as Barack Hussein Obama

Meanwhile…

Nimarata Nikki Randhawa had to run as Nikki Haley

Piyush Jindal had to run as Bobby Jindal

Rafael Edward Cruz had to run as Ted Cruz

Even Ronna Romney had to run as Ronna McDaniel

And don’t get me started on the 11-teen different names of George Santos

Point is, GOP claims that “Dems are obsessed with identity politics” is 100% projection.

GOP: We want a balanced budget!

So repeal Trump’s $2.1T billionaire tax cuts?
•GOP: NO!

End corporate welfare?
•GOP: NO!

Audit bloated military budget?
•GOP: NO!

How will you balance the budget?

GOP: Ban free school lunch

(Not even exaggerating)

Y’all ever find yourself thinking about the parents of the kids of Sandy Hook? Or Uvalde, Parkland, & Covenant. Or Columbine, Santa Fe, & more?

We may move on—but their lives are frozen in time. Forever fixated on a moment they can never change.😓

It just doesn’t have to be this way.

Reminder—if Trump's indictment was meritless every top criminal defense lawyer in America would be scrambling to defend him. It’d be the case of a lifetime.

But instead they're avoiding him like the plague b/c they know he's guilty & refuse to sink with his ship.

US law holds "when accused of a crime an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one."

Trump may force a change to, "an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one OR if you are so unethical no one will take your case."

Black & Latinos arrested 6-10X more than whites for decades for the exact same crimes
•MAGAs: Yay law & order!

Black & Latinos given 20% longer sentences than whites for decades for the exact same crimes
•MAGAs: Yay law & order!

Donald Trump indicted for knowingly stealing dozens of classified documents and sharing them with random people, while also claiming he’d prosecute anyone who failed to protect classified documents
•MAGAs: Double Standards!!🤬

MAGA hypocrisy isn’t a bug—it’s the point.

First they came for Michael Flynn and I said nothing, because I'm not a traitor and fascist.

Then they came for Roger Stone and I said nothing, for pretty much the exact same reasons.

Then they came for Alex Jones and I said nothing, except you know, this whole justice thing is pretty awesome.

Then they came for Donald Trump, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

We are suffering a massive cancer drug shortage b/c “While the meds are cheap to manufacture, pharma corps are not incentivised to because they don't bring in large profits.”

We must guarantee healthcare as a human right—not as a for profit enterprise for the wealthy.

Meanwhile pharma Corp @Merck is suing the US Govt for preventing them from charging exploitative prices on critical medicines people need to live.

Their goal is profits—not saving lives. Enough exploitation. How many more must needlessly suffer and die? We Must Guarantee healthcare as a human right.

Thousands died, but no accountability for Walgreens. They don’t care because they made their precious profit as people suffered & died

I attended an interfaith event last Friday & the evangelical pastor lamented to me,"America's lost her way because we've forgotten Jesus."

I responded, "As a Muslim I love Jesus too—but when exactly would you say America 'followed' Jesus? Was it during Native Genocide? Slavery? Jim Crow? Denying women equal rights? While invading Iraq?”

Deafening silence.

If you want to show me your faith, first show me your service to ALL humanity—regardless of faith or no faith. B/c faith w/o works is dead.

Last week a bill passed the House & Senate to:
•End student debt relief
•Force people to pay interest cancelled due to pandemic
•Reinstate 260K+ already cancelled student loans owed by educators, nurses, first responders, & public service workers

Biden will veto, but this absurd attack on working people is the GOP’s focus—all while protecting their precious billionaire donors. Vote the GOP out.

*(Unsurprisingly Manchin, Sinema, & Tester voted with the GOP).

Here’s some perspective.

Americans:
•Cancel student debt!
•Cancel medical debt!
•Make insulin free!

Most of Developed World:
•What is student debt?
•What is medical debt?
•Insulin is already free!

What GOP calls “socialism”—even conservative parties in most developed nations call a “human right.”

Did you know: The annual cost of burglary, robbery, larceny, & auto theft COMBINED is $14B—but the annual cost of wage theft by employers exploiting workers is $50B?

Remember this when media or politicians cite crime but ignore the most costly crime of all—corporate wage theft.

QasimRashid,
@QasimRashid@mastodon.social avatar

Receipts: "According to the Economic Policy Institute, wage theft costs U.S. workers as much as $50 billion per year — a number far higher than all robberies, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts combined."

Utah GOP passed a law in 2022 to ban books containing “pornographic or indecent” content from Utah schools, libraries, and classrooms.

So a a parent asked that the Bible be removed per GOP definition of vulgarity—and the committee approved.🤯

In short—the GOP has cancelled the Bible. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Also keep this in mind.

Yes, the drug dealing Sackler Family are paying $6B for illegal Oxycontin distribution & killing ~546K Americans. But not only does no amount of money bring back the dead, the Sacklers are still worth $11B and 0 of them are going to prison for their crimes. $6B is just the Sacklers' cost of doing business.

Meanwhile ~40K disproportionately Black & brown people who killed no one—ARE in prison for cannabis.

The system ain't broken—it was built this way.

QasimRashid, to random
@QasimRashid@mastodon.social avatar

The billionaire Sackler Family and Purdue Pharma will pay $6B & serve 0 prison for knowingly selling horrendous amounts of OxyContin while claiming it was non-addictive—resulting in 564K+ American deaths by Opioid overdose.😓 And that doesn’t even begin to contemplate the global harm and deaths the Sackler family caused.

And for all that suffering and atrocity—not one person will go to prison. Not one.

“If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the poor.”

Today was the 102 year anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre in which white supremacist terrorists mass murdered 300 Black Americans.

Here's how media reported on it—a complete erasure of Black people.

Three Tulsa survivors—Hughes Van Ellis, 102, Lessie Benningfield Randle, 108, and Viola Fletcher, who just turned 109, are with us today. They are the oldest living survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre. They have received $0 reparations.

This isn't ancient history. It's contemporary reality.

I wish schools taught this.

Memorial Day began in 1865 when 10,000 former enslaved & a few white missionaries honored fallen Union soldiers.

It was founded in memory of those who gave their life to end white supremacy terror, slavery, & human trafficking
