If you think putting people who live in this nation in MORE jeopardy is a way to make things better, YOU’RE A DANGEROUS DUMB ASS WITH BLOODLUST.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@StillIRise1963 Seems a lot of people are blind to their privilege and willfully deaf to the lived experience of POC, LGBTQ, women and other groups.

Seeing a transphobic account/profile complaining they've been blocked by servers on the fediverse makes my heart happy.
Mastodon is not perfect, nothing is, but it's the fact that some care and try, keeps me here.

17yo kitty Ginny isn't doing great, with thyroid overactivity and kidneys not working great. Not doing awful either, and you wouldn't know it just by looking.

Some thyroid meds have helped. Some additional kidney meds coming.

This would be a lot easier if we weren't dealing with a vet that has tried to upsell us on every questionable supplement and procedure over the years, for all of our pets.

Now we can't tell what's a BS business tactic, and what's medically necessary.

@johnefrancis We have had a similar experience with our vet and dog. Frustrating

When your gay friends are stripped of their marriages, tell them you didn’t vote because you wanted to make a statement about Gaza.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@StillIRise1963 These are low information voters susceptible to propaganda. They might as well openly support Russia too.
Most have no idea how bad it was before for LGBTQ people or how hard we had to organize and fight for our rights. A whole generation was sacrificed to AIDS due to intolerance. They are either incredibly dumb or not allies. Thanks for speaking up. Devastating to see people throw away my human rights only to make life worse for those they claim to fight for

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@StillIRise1963 Exactly. Their rights came from our struggles, our genocides. Now they are opening up old traumas and wounds for those who fought for their rights. It makes me sad, and those who are foolishly buying into the propaganda may have to learn the hard way. I wish that on no one.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@Oggie @StillIRise1963 I remember lots more than that unfortunately. I remember growing up not even knowing gay people existed and I was one! We were not allowed to exist or be seen.

The Crown corporation informed the government of its position in a recent letter. It said its decision was based on concerns about its employees' security, according to federal sources who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

@msquebanh For the sake of our postmistress, I'm glad and I don't blame them. In a lot of rural areas these are one person operations, I know I'd be super uncomfortable with dealing with guns.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@msquebanh Yeah, I agree. I have no idea why anyone would think it was a good idea to involve Canada Post.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@msquebanh That's their logic?? Wow. They seem more and more detached from reality when they make plans.
It's like the dental program, only 6 dentists in the entire province of NS are participating. Makes me sad, because people will still suffer, but they will campaign on a program that barely exists. 😞

QueerInTheCountry, to random
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

Do you know how in Canada it's nearly impossible to find a family doctor? The same thing is about to happen with dentists. My dentist can't even do 6 month cleanings now due to lack of staff and they aren't even participating in the new Canada Dental program. Only 6 dentists in my entire province are.
It's almost like they designed the worst dental care program possible to keep their costs low.

Your friendly reminder, for those that can. May is boycott Loblaws and their multi branded retail locations.

We've been doing it for last year, and maybe some of you will stop shopping there too!

I'd also like to suggest to those that garden to grow a bit extra, not only for neighbours and friends, but for your local food programs.

I'm seeing many post about BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) directed at Israel for their treatment of Palestinian people.
In the past I've suggested this for countries that criminalize LGBTQ people and murder them and all I usually hear is crickets.
Can't really understand what the difference is.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@CivilityFan I think you may have misunderstood my post.
I'm wondering why there has never been protests or a strong movement on behalf of LGBTQ people who live in countries that criminalize their existence that includes BDS.
I sanction no sides in any war and am a pacifist. I think we should be loving everyone so I'm sad to see more antisemitism. No one should be hated for the actions of their government unless they are members of that government.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@CivilityFan I do see more antisemitism here in North America, which makes zero sense and makes me sad. I've lived through trauma and been hated for being LGBTQ and I don't want that for any group of people. I do hope one day that love wins for us all, regardless of our sexual orientation or background.

@cferdinandi @serge One could also say that about LGBTQ Palestinians who are criminalized and persecuted in Gaza in response to your comment.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@cferdinandi @serge I must have missed all the out pouring of support for the LGBTQ Palestinians and the global protests prior to last October. Where are the protests against all the other countries that the West continues to trade and aid with who execute, harass and criminalize LGBTQ people. No genocide in most of those countries now, except for the LGBTQ people in them.

Mom's recent blood tests weren't enough for liver specialist doctor to diagnose today. Her last ultrasound, combined with recent blood test results indicated some liver damage & autoimmune issues. Specialist has sent requisitions for another ultrasound & for a day biopsy at Jubilee to try to figure out cause of Mom's liver issues. She's never smoked & has maybe drank a total of 10 alcoholic drinks maximum, her entire life. Once liver issues are diagnosed, we can look at treatment options.

Yes, I take it personally when you say you won't vote, or vote for the Dem. Why? Because among other things, the fascists tried to commit a Black GENOCIDE during the pandemic. Your actions or inaction will give them the power to do it again in some other way. My survival depends on them NOT gaining power. So does yours.

QueerInTheCountry,

@StillIRise1963 Same goes for LGBTQ people and women. Makes it easy to spot white supremacists, homophobes and misogynists.

Michigan Muslims and Arabs are over Biden

A delegation of Biden officials are visiting Muslim and Arab leaders in Michigan today to try to reverse plummeting support for the president over Gaza, but no number of hastily arranged meetings can repair this rift.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@mapachin @israel @palestine @mondoweiss absolutely. I oppose the genocide. Do you? Because there will be more suffering if Biden loses, because that means Trump will win.
I'm no fan of Biden. I wish Bernie had won.
If you think enabling a trump win is solidarity, that's bizarre and dangerous.
It's unfortunate those are the choices. Maybe people could primary Biden and replace him as the democratic nominee with someone who will end funding for weapons.

QueerInTheCountry,
@QueerInTheCountry@mas.to avatar

@mapachin @israel @palestine @mondoweiss first off, I'm in Canada. Second, I doubt All American Muslims appointed you as their spokesperson and that all of them have abandoned Biden. Third, attacking someone who actually bothered to express their support to end the genocide to their government officials and advocate we take in more Palestinian refugees and restore funding to UNWRA, seems like your view of solidarity is toxic and autocratic.
