@Oggie@StillIRise1963 I remember lots more than that unfortunately. I remember growing up not even knowing gay people existed and I was one! We were not allowed to exist or be seen.
@StillIRise1963 Exactly. Their rights came from our struggles, our genocides. Now they are opening up old traumas and wounds for those who fought for their rights. It makes me sad, and those who are foolishly buying into the propaganda may have to learn the hard way. I wish that on no one.
@StillIRise1963 These are low information voters susceptible to propaganda. They might as well openly support Russia too.
Most have no idea how bad it was before for LGBTQ people or how hard we had to organize and fight for our rights. A whole generation was sacrificed to AIDS due to intolerance. They are either incredibly dumb or not allies. Thanks for speaking up. Devastating to see people throw away my human rights only to make life worse for those they claim to fight for
@mike@AirlockDoc@AmishSuperModel
It was a lot different to experience it as an LGBTQ person. Many false starts before it happened, many marches and movements in provinces which were the forerunners and many calls to my homophobic liberal MP at that time.
Yes, I take it personally when you say you won't vote, or vote for the Dem. Why? Because among other things, the fascists tried to commit a Black GENOCIDE during the pandemic. Your actions or inaction will give them the power to do it again in some other way. My survival depends on them NOT gaining power. So does yours.
#introduction
I've been using Mastodon exclusively for about a week now since I've deleted elon from my life. I like this platform and the people here much more.
I'd like to round out my feed more to include more #art#nature#space and general geekiness.
I'm also looking to connect with people as friends, as I'm lgbtq and live in a rural are, which makes for few social opportunities 😂😊
I used to work at the Starbucks in the #yeg City Centre Mall. Every week or so, a kid would come to the cafe and ask for a cup of water and a breakfast sandwich.
They would always pay in carefully counted coin and over time noticed they were wearing the same clothes.
One day, I managed to catch them on the way out as I was stocking the condiment stand and asked if they were okay.
@chad Parental rights is another way of them saying they think they have the right to abuse their children.
I'm glad you were able to help them and they were strong enough to get help ❤️
What do you think is a good response to an in-law who suggests you should see a psychologist because you still are taking some covid precautions like masking in crowded indoor spaces?
Are we out of touch? I don't even know what to think or believe any more.
It's no mistake 'parental rights' bigots carry signs that say they own their children.
-Not teaching kids about consent, is neglect (which is abusive) and allows them to be abused, and shelters abusers
-Anti LGBTQ parental rights rhetoric is emotionally abusive. LGBTQ children of these people are being abused (and they are abusing all LGBTQ people)
-Teaching intolerance is taking away the opportunity to thrive in a society that strives to be inclusive.
Seeing a transphobic account/profile complaining they've been blocked by servers on the fediverse makes my heart happy.
Mastodon is not perfect, nothing is, but it's the fact that some care and try, keeps me here.
Do you know how in Canada it's nearly impossible to find a family doctor? The same thing is about to happen with dentists. My dentist can't even do 6 month cleanings now due to lack of staff and they aren't even participating in the new Canada Dental program. Only 6 dentists in my entire province are.
It's almost like they designed the worst dental care program possible to keep their costs low.
17yo kitty Ginny isn't doing great, with thyroid overactivity and kidneys not working great. Not doing awful either, and you wouldn't know it just by looking.
Some thyroid meds have helped. Some additional kidney meds coming.
This would be a lot easier if we weren't dealing with a vet that has tried to upsell us on every questionable supplement and procedure over the years, for all of our pets.
Now we can't tell what's a BS business tactic, and what's medically necessary.
#CanadaPost is refusing to collect #firearms that were #banned by the federal government in 2020, complicating Ottawa's plans for a #BuybackProgram to remove 144,000 firearms from private hands, federal sources say.
The Crown corporation informed the government of its position in a recent letter. It said its decision was based on concerns about its employees' security, according to federal sources who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
@msquebanh That's their logic?? Wow. They seem more and more detached from reality when they make plans.
It's like the dental program, only 6 dentists in the entire province of NS are participating. Makes me sad, because people will still suffer, but they will campaign on a program that barely exists. 😞
@msquebanh For the sake of our postmistress, I'm glad and I don't blame them. In a lot of rural areas these are one person operations, I know I'd be super uncomfortable with dealing with guns.
I'm seeing many post about BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) directed at Israel for their treatment of Palestinian people.
In the past I've suggested this for countries that criminalize LGBTQ people and murder them and all I usually hear is crickets.
Can't really understand what the difference is.
@CivilityFan I do see more antisemitism here in North America, which makes zero sense and makes me sad. I've lived through trauma and been hated for being LGBTQ and I don't want that for any group of people. I do hope one day that love wins for us all, regardless of our sexual orientation or background.
